Legal snow shoes

In the interests of fairness, legal snow shoes for this race are defined generally by  the United States Snow Shoe Association (USSSA) Snowshoe Size Regulations.

We are aware there are some pretty minimal size snow shoes on the market.  It is your responsibilty to make sure yours meet the basic regulations.  If  your snow shoes are on the USSSA approved list or measure at least 7 inches at the widest point and at least 20 inches at the longest point (tip to tail) we will accept them as legal for this race. We reserve the right to measure your snow shoes and remove you from prize competition if they do not meet this requirement.

Children (<15 years old) may wear any size snow shoe.

A full description of USSA size regulations and a current list of legal snow shoes can be found at http://www.snowshoeracing.com/legal_size.htm (or click on the section heading "legal snow shoes" above).

Kid's Race

An approximately 1 mile loop for kids (14 and under) is available (this is a little less than half a loop of the full Norski Trails).  Kids may choose the distance that is best for them when registering.   The Kids 1 mile race will start at the same time as the full race.  Kids race participants are eligible for the giveaways and awards.  Adults may accompany their children on the course without registering (please don't cross the finish line with your kid, it confuses the timers).

Awards

Post race raffle for all entrants from REI and the Running Hub

$50 Running Hub gift certificates for overall male and female racers.

Awards for 1st-3rd for 14 and under, 15-19 and then 10 year age groups, based on age on race day. (If there are some little kids, we will add an age group for them.)

This is a New Mexico Cup Race Series Featured Event. You are automatically entered in the series by doing this race.  Series awards will be based on your age on Dec. 31, 2013. See http://www.newmexicocupraceseries.com/ for details.

Not enough snow?

Don't even think it!

In the highly unlikely event that there is not enough snow, the race will still be held as a foot race with the same great prizes and the same great fun.  "Not enough snow" means that significant stretches of the trail are not covered.   If conditions are hard pack snow with some short bare sections, snow shoes will be required.  The race director will make the decision as to  snow shoes vs. running shoes.  This may not be decided until race morning after walking the course - if conditions are iffy, come prepared for either event.  If it will be a foot race then you may use YakTrax or some other traction footwear.  You may not use YakTrax or similar devices in place of snow shoes if the director rules it will be a snow shoe race (see legal snow shoe section, above).

Dogs

Dogs are not allowed on the Norski trails as per Forest Service rules.  Please leave your dog at home or in your car during the race.  Dogs are allowed on the Winsor trail which crosses the Norski trail parking lot and on most other nearby trails.
