Description
The 23rd Annual 6-Hour Distance Classic! Run or walk as far as you can, or as far as you like, for up to six hours. Also, USATF Certified Full Marathon and Half Marathon. You may use the Marathon as a Boston Qualifier. Official times for each concurrent event (6-Hour and Marathon and Half Marathon - you are in all 3 concurrently if you manage to run that far. All timing stops after 6 hours. Partial laps at the end of the race will count, but only if the runner completes the full lap. Chip timing.
The event was founded as a no-frills race to let runners experiment with an ultra-marathon distance of their choice under friendly but real race conditions. The entire course is run on the traffic-free Amherst Bike Path. The course is a P-Shaped loop of almost 3.25 miles in length so that you are never further than 1.5 miles from water, munchies, porta-potties and your vehicle and personal stash of running support supplies, if you wish.
There are finisher medals for ALL finishers, awarded when you decide to quit or when time runs out at 6 hours, and special awards for the overall male and female race winners in the Ultra Marathon (most distance) and the Marathon event (best time) and the Half Marathon event. Since all 3 events are concurrent we will follow the "no duplication of awards" practice to spread out the scarce awards. That means if you win more that one event you will be credited with all your victories in the results but receive only the "highest" award (e.g., if you win the Marathon and the Half Marathon then you will receive the Marathon trophy only and the Half Marathon award must be granted to the Half Marathon runner-up). There will also be a commemorative item given to each participant - as of this time it is yet to be determined.
The loop is USATF Certified at 5.2177 km (3.24213 miles) under USATF Certified Course NY13040JG.
The included Marathon occurs after you have completed 8 full loops plus 453 meters as indicated in USATF Certified Course number NY13042JG. The run can be, and has been successfully used as a Boston Qualifier (BQ). The BAA explicitly solicits our marathon results each year after the race for the purpose of recognizing BQ marathon performances.
The included Half Marathon occurs after you have completed 4 full loops plus an additional 226.7 meters.
The aid station is setup near the primary timing station at the Turn-Around. Water, Gatorade, munchies are constantly available. Pizza and pop will be served at this location 3 times during the 6 hour period.
