Description

Welcome to The Longest Day Virtual Run/Walk Challenge to Benefit The Alzheimer's Association Presented by Nationwide Mortgage Bankers, Inc.! This isn't your usual virtual 5K - this is a month-long event in which you challenge yourself to be as active as you can for a wonderful cause! The more you do, the more you get out of it - and we don't mean just fitness, although you'll certainly get that. You will get STUFF. And everyone loves stuff!

The best part about this is that you can participate safely and responsibly wherever you wish! In doing so, you will not only keep the spirit of the running community alive during these socially distant times, but also support your local running club and its charitable beneficiary, The Alzheimer's Association.

We will be keeping registration open for this event through 11:59 PM on April 23, 2021. That date is one week before the challenge ends. It will give latecomers some time to build a few miles to get some amazing gear, and still help an amazing charity in the process!

The primary goal here is to HAVE FUN and stay connected with the running community! Enjoy this event, and be sure to tag us in your results all month long! We are @runglirc on Instagram, and use hashtag  #GLIRCLongestDayRun2021 and, you may find our Facebook public page HERE. If you are a current GLIRC member, be sure to join our members-only Facebook group to talk about the race and share ideas with other members.

Amenities

All participants will receive a warm and soft hooded long-sleeved t-shirt courtesy of Nationwide Mortgage Bankers, Inc.

Other gear will depend on the work that you put in during the challenge! Over the years, GLIRC has amassed some truly beautiful, unique giveaways and trinkets. Have you ever seen a shirt from a past race and wished you were there so you could have one? Now's your chance to put in some post-dated miles to earn that shirt... and then some!

HOW IT WORKS:

During the month, you will go to your RunSignup profile to log your miles. Don't wait to sign up - the sooner you sign up, the more time you have to log your miles! We recommend doing this whenever you run so it becomes a habit, and you don't have to do it all at once! You do not have to run/walk/hike every day - your miles for the month are cumulative. Miles may be run, walked, or hiked - outside on the roads and trails, or inside on a treadmill. These miles are meant to be intentional miles - ones that you accumulate for the sole purpose of honoring your body through movement - these are not to be miles accumulated through everyday "steps" on your movement tracker inside the house or office that are not taken for the purpose of exercise. Biking and swimming miles do not count for this challenge. At the end of the month, the collective miles you've put in will determine how many of GLIRC's Garage Goodies will find their way into your home. You'll find that each level builds upon the level before it - you get everything from the previous level once you reach a new level! If the gear states "random," you will find that the gear is truly random - no two people are guaranteed the same items!

Run Safely!

Please adhere to all local laws and guidelines that apply in your area regarding safety with COVID-19. Social distancing and/or masks are vital at this time. The current guidelines for the CDC regarding COVID-19 risk and prevention are found HERE.  It is fully within the rules of the virtual event to use a treadmill, so feel free to do that if it is a safer option for you. Give yourself sufficient time to rest and recover after all physical activities, and listen to your body. If you feel sick, consult a health practitioner and avoid physical activities until cleared.

If you are running in public, please adhere to all traffic safety laws in your area. Run on sidewalks where possible, and face oncoming traffic on road shoulders where sidewalks are not available so that you can see what is coming toward you at any given time. Consider wearing no headphones, or above-ear headphones that are not noise-canceling, so that you may hear what is going on around you.

Virtual Race Results

Click here to reach the page where you can submit your virtual results.   You can also go to your RunSignUp profile, go to your Upcoming races, and click on Submit Virtual Results.
