Willow Running is proud to team up with Cancer Connects to offer a unique Challenge based around Elevation Gain.
The Stairway to Heaven Elevation Challenge is a one day challenge where you either run, hike or cycle on hills, mountains, steep road inclines or even stairs. We are calling this Elevation Challenge Stairway to Heaven because that's what it is. Cancer Connects Angel Fund is dedicated to helping those battling with cancer. All of us who have the good fortune to be in good health can get out and climb, walk, run or bike to reach heights to be among the Angels and to aid those in need. We ask all participants to choose one day and give it all you've got- a day of pain for a day of gain! Choose a 24 hour period between Oct 9 and Oct 12 (Columbus Day Weekend) and get your "climb" on.. each category (Run/Hike/Cycle/Ultimate) will have it's own minimum elevation gain requirement.
THE GOAL
Raise as much money as possible for the Cancer Connects Angel Fund (http://www.cancerconnects.org/angel-fund) whose mission it is to help support local area cancer patients and their families cope with the many expenses incurred during the treatment and recovery process.
For many not-for-profits, 2020 has been a difficult year for fundraising due to the cancellation of so many charity fundraising events.
THE CHALLENGES
Grab your iPhone, Garmin or any other tracking device that tracks elevation gain. Choose one day and give it all you've got. That's one 24 hour period between Oct 9 and Oct 12th (Columbus Day weekend). Of course, if you are doing the ULTIMATE CHALLENGE you have 3 days! Everyone gets a shirt but hit the minimum elevation gain requirement for your category and be eligible for more swag & post-race raffles.
Choose your activity:
RUN/WALK - Choose your hill day, do repeats, run stairs or just find a hilly road course. The minimum requirement to qualify for the post-event raffle is 750 feet of elevation gain. Top 3 Elevation Gainers will earn awards (TBD).
HIKE - Hit the trails! The minimum requirement to qualify for the post event Raffle is 1500 feet of elevation gain. You got this! Top 3 Elevation Gainers will earn awards (TBD). What an amazing time of the year to hike a peak!
CYCLE - Pedal your way up! The minimum requirement to qualify for the post event Raffle is 3000 feet of elevation gain.
ULTIMATE CHALLENGE - Pick any 3 days over the Columbus Day weekend and accomplish all 3 challenges. Add up your total elevation gain for each event and submit one monster total. Raffle prizes and Awards will be greater for the Ultimate Challenger participants.
Minimum Elevation Gain requirements:
- 750' elevation for the Run/Walk
- 1500' elevation for the Hike
- 3000' elevation for cycling
THE REWARD
All participants will receive a custom Hills Angels shirt to proudly acknowledge your participation in this Stairway to Heaven Elevation Challenge.
If you attain this minimum required elevation gain for your activity, you will be entered into a raffle for a variety of prizes including custom blankets, hoodies, socks, beanies, free race entrances, golf passes etc.
We will also award top Elevation Gainers in each category with even bigger prizes.
