Pretty In Pink
Description
My name is Okiah Makely and I’m a student at Bayport-Blue Point High School. In October, 2016, my Nana was diagnosed with breast cancer and my Uncle Mickey with Stage Four Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. I am deeply committed to help not only my family but the community and future generations affected by this devastating disease. I know I’m only a teenager, but I want to make a big difference! This will be my fourth fundraising event and I hope to raise $5,000 to support breast cancer programs and services at the Stony Brook University Cancer Center.
At a time when everyone needs to come together, we also need to be physically apart and out of our caring concern to keep everyone safe and well, the 2020 Pretty in Pink Run, Walk and Bike event will be virtual. But breast cancer doesn’t stop and neither will we!
How can you help? By simply making a $30 or more donation, and if you feel so moved, join me in solidarity by getting out during the month of October to run, walk or bike on a route and distance of your choosing, to show that you care for breast cancer survivors and loved ones lost. Please note
that you can also support the event by staying home and making a general donation!
I’m encourage each participant to “GET YOUR PINK ON” by dressing up or decorating your bike in pink, and by adding a message on your event bib if you are participating in honor of, in memory of, or in celebration of a loved one with breast cancer. Feel free to share your run, walk and biking photos
on this site and on your Facebook page. In return for your $30 contribution, each donor will receive a commemorative medal and gaiter mask and the first 125 registrants will also receive a pair of Blue Point Brewing Company socks!
So please support me in helping breast cancer patients and survivors on Long Island, and show them that they may be isolated, but not alone. We can fight cancer together, even when we are apart.
Remember that Breast Cancer Awareness is NOT JUST A MONTH!
Thank you for your generosity and ongoing support.
