Kelly Marie LaBare
Kelly LaBare was a radiant soul whose presence lit up every path she ran. With her effortless stride, flowing blonde ponytail, and steady rhythm, Kelly was a familiar and inspiring sight in the Upstate New York running community. Always nearby was her younger brother and biggest fan, Byron—her sidekick in both life and sport.
A premier road runner and passionate advocate for education, Kelly’s life was rooted in purpose and compassion. In 1997, her journey was tragically cut short by a sudden heart condition at just 25 years old. Yet her legacy extends far beyond her athletic achievements. Kelly embodied humility, grace, determination, and a deep care for others.
Guided by a strong spiritual foundation, Kelly pursued her dreams with passion. She graduated with high honors from Cornell University and touched countless lives through her character, her kindness, and her unwavering commitment to her goals. With the love and support of her family and friends, Kelly lived with intention and inspired others to do the same.
Each year, on the first Sunday in August, we gather to honor Kelly’s life through the Kelly LaBare 5K – Celebration of Life Run/Walk. It’s more than a race—it’s a tribute to her spirit, a celebration of community, and a way to keep her light shining. Kelly's impact continues to move us forward, as we lace up and take each step, one stride at a time, we are inspired by the words that reflect her journey:
“…And let us run with endurance the race that God has set before us…” (Hebrews 12:1–3)
