Daniel's Race

2023 Proceeds

Part of the 2023 Race proceeds will be going to the Hoffman Family. Nataniel was born on March 9th 2022 with significant health complications. His parents, Edmaris and Matt were able to hold him for the first time on March 20th 2022, about 2 weeks after being born. In April of 2022 Nataniel was flown to a hospital in NYC for further treatment. From April to late summer, Edmaris was able to stay with Nataniel while Matt drove back and forth to work every week. When the school year began, both parents traveled together to be with their son on the weekends. Nataniel has undergone multiple surgeries and procedures in his first two months of life, and was able to be brought home in December of 2022.

After spending nearly 10 months of his life in the hospital, Nataniel requires 24 hour nursing care and faces at least one major surgery. Edmaris was forunate enough to stay at The Ronald McDonald House while staying with Nataniel, but she did not receive her salary past her maternity leave until she returned to work as a school counselor in September 2022. Despite Matt maintaining his teaching position as well as keeping a part-time job there have been unexpected financial pressures that the family has been facing, including traveling, medical and vet expenses. Through all of this they have also lost their beloved dog, Mellow, in May 2022, who was undergoing treatment for brain cancer. While doing their best to stay focused on the positives there have been improvements along the way. Baby Nataniel still has a long, challenging road ahead.

As one can only imagine, since the birth of their son life has been a roller coaster of emotions, stress, and trauma for this new family, who should only be celebrating the joy of their new blessing. Matt and Edmaris had kept all of this close to their chests in order to remain focused on their son but have now decided they are now ready to share their journey and to receive any prayers and support you have to offer them.

Please consider registering for the race and donating to the Hoffman family!

There are no refunds, all proceeds will be donated to help support a specific family in need, the Golisano Children's Hospital Financial Fund, and the CCHS Daniel Myslivecek Scholarship.

Thank you for your support!

Description

This 5K race is in remembrance of Daniel Myslivecek, who lost his battle with Melanoma at the age of 16. A friend of Daniel's organized the first 5K in 2005 to help the family with medical costs. Daniel ran in that first race and died 4 months later from his illness. The 5K has continued with the support of our community and each year the proceeds are given to a family or organization that helps children with a life-threatening illness while heightening Melanoma awareness.
