DC Raymond M Downey "Forever Running" Memorial 5K Run/Walk has been switched to a virtual run.

The D.C. Raymond Downey "Forever Running" 5 K scheduled for June 21st has been switched to a virtual Run.due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Runners and Walkers will have the option of 1) participating in a virtual run within 1 week of the race ( June 21st to June 28th). 2) Donate your fee to the D.C. Raymond Downey Scholarships 3) Get a refund minus credit card charges

Unfortunately, our 19th Annual DC Raymond M Downey “Forever Running” Memorial 5K Run/Walk will be canceled as a live event. As a family of first responders, we understand and see firsthand the gravity of what has happened in our state and in our local communities. We have seen loss among our own families and friends. We obviously cannot fund raise this year like we usually do, as so many of our donors and sponsors have been affected physically and financially. We, however, would like to continue to donate to organizations and charities we have supported in the past and will continue in the future.  The Father’s Day 5K Run/Walk is our only fundraising event that keeps the D.C. Raymond M. Downey Scholarship/Charity organization funded.

If you would still like to make a donation to the charity fund, we will be offering a “Virtual Run/Walk”.  We ask that you run/walk a 5K during the week of June 21st (Father’s Day- June 28th) following appropriate CDC guidelines or at a later date when you feel safe to run outdoors.  You could sign up at

We were unable to make shirts for this year's event but we are going to offer tie-dyed versions of past years staff shirts or runner shirts for those who register. -Shirts are NOT guaranteed (sizes and colors of race shirts are limited- it will be first come first serve) and will be pickup only, in which dates and locations will be provided. Contact Kathy at or text 631-495-4026

All proceeds raised will be donated in memory of our father to support COVID-19 affected.

There will be links to social media sites for you to post pictures of yourselves running in past, or tie-dyed versions of the race shirt.

Thank you for your continued support of our event, “We will never forget”.

Here Are Your Options:

Virtual races happen all the time, and allow you to join the fun without the crowds. You simply run the distance on your own, and report your results - we’ll send you instructions.

Note that your run will be like any other run on your own, you are responsible for your safety.  Please be careful out on the roads.

The race will not be having registration or pickup of t-shirts or goodies due to the fact that the Knights of Columbus has been closed till the pandemic has been declared over. Please continue to follow the safety guidelines by the CDC. Be well and be safe.  Thanks for supporting our event.

We thank you for your kind donation.  We hope to see you next June in Deer Park to continue the Forever Running tradition.

Please stay safe.

We understand. We hope you can join us in June of 2021 to continue the Forever Running Tradition..  Your refund will be minus the credit card transaction fee of $ 3.25 plus the charge back fee from the bank of $ 7.50  Please be safe out there.

Affectionately referred to as "The Master of Disaster" and "God," Deputy Chief Raymond M. Downey, Commanding Officer of the Special Operations Command (SOC), died in the line of duty, while helping others escape from the fire and collapse scene of the twin towers at the World Trade Center on Tuesday, September 11, 2001. The fire service was a major force in his life, as evidenced by his sterling career. He truly was a legend in his own time.

As a tribute to Chief Downey's legacy, his family has established the D.C. Raymond Downey Scholarship Charity Fund to keep his memory alive and to benefit the many organizations that Chief Downey cherished.
