I Did The Grid

Sat May 23 - Mon May 25 East Northport, NY US 11731
Place
623 Ninth Avenue
East Northport, NY US 11731
Description

This Memorial Day Weekend will be different than our traditional experience.  With the inability to safely gather as usual at Pulaski Elementary school, this year we're going to send the Grid to you, with the first ever "Virtual I Did the Grid".  Please continue to help us honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our great country.

Registration is free for the run.  It is very important to us that everyone who wants to is able to participate.  There is an option to donate money in any amount if you're able to.  Funds raised will go to furthering the Team Chris mission of honoring the fallen and supporting our troops.

Once registered, you will receive an email with a .pdf race bib that you can wear on race day.  It'll will contain the names of fallen soldiers that you will be honoring with your efforts, and has an optional place to write in your own personal additional honorees.

Please do not gather at the traditional race site, or on the traditional race course.  As much as we'd love to see all of you out there, we know it would be unsafe.

Participants who register for this virtual run will be given credit for the I Did the Grid in the Suffolk County Veterans Run Series.

A Message from the Scherer and Burr Families

As you all know, our family made a decision to cancel the 2020 Cpl Christopher G. Scherer “I Did the Grid” Memorial 4 Mile Run/Walk due to the current health pandemic. We received a lot of positive feedback after the announcement which we so appreciated. Many asked if a virtual run was possible.  We listened and came up with a way that allows you to run/walk in honor of our fallen on Memorial Day in a safe manner but does not burden any of you who may be experiencing financial setbacks during this tough time.

This year we will be offering our Virtual Grid for free to anyone who would like to participate.  You need only to register and download the printable bib.  It will have the names of five of our local OIF/OEF fallen warriors and a space for you to fill in your own special hero. This way we will all be able to take part in the Grid to “Honor our Fallen and Support our Troops!” Donations are optional and any received will go towards our efforts to award scholarships and sponsor service dogs.

We so wish that we could all be together to participate in the Grid this year, but this affords you the opportunity to honor our military, and carry the names of fallen heroes with you as you go.  With 31 turns in the Grid course, there is not another one like it! So, make your course as creative as possible. Have fun with it and if you can, ring a bell or beep your horn at the end of your run/walk for each one of the fallen that you have carried! We hope that you will send pictures to our Team Chris Facebook or Instagram (#ididthegridvirtualrun) pages.

Although we miss the chance to see you all, we will be with you in spirit every step you take as you complete the mission! As always we appreciate your support and look forward to being together again next year!

Semper Fi,

The Scherer and Burr Families
