Basics for Planning Your Walk or Run
A 5k is 3.1 Miles. Use these tools to help you plan a route through your neighborhood or a local park.
- Use a GPS app on your phone to measure your distance (like the free app Strava https://www.strava.com/)
- Use a fitness tracker as a guide: 2000 steps = 1 Mile, so 6200 steps = 5k and 12400 steps = 10k
- Use your car's odometer to plot a route in your neighborhood
- find a certified course in your town or local park in USATF's database: https://certifiedroadraces.com/search/
- Walk 4 laps for a mile, 12.5 laps for a 5k, or 25 laps for a 10k on a local high school track
