The SHEF foundation has partnered with the South Huntington School District each year to celebrate our community and support the school district's Arts/Dance and Music programs. Our event began with the loss of one of our students( Michael) to childhood cancer. His love for the world of music inspired the beginning of this event. Michael's full story can be found on the school district website (.https://www.milesformichael.run/) Often the Art/Dance and Music programs are the first to be affected by budgetary cutbacks when necessary. The goal is to continue its support these programs until the need no longer exists. In the past years SHEF has provided over $100,000 in much needed improvements. A few examples of SHEF's accomplishments are listed below. We have made great strides.....but still have much to conquer. Come join us!
Miles for Michael's Seventh Annual 1 Mile/5K/10K and Kids Fun Run will be held virtually for 2021. The event will begin May 9th and end Sunday, May 23, 2021. There will be many options for you to choose from when making your plans to participate. They are each listed below with ta brief description.
This is an event that will allow a runner to run a distance of a marathon from May 9th to May 23rd 2021. The runner may run anywhere and any distance each day. You can begin on one day and continue to add to your mileage as the month progresses, culminating in a 1/2 or full marathon. What better way to learn the distances you may be capable of running! The runner must use the RaceJoy app on their Smart phone so that the distance can be recorded and sent to race central. There are two milestones in the event. The first is the 13.1 mile mark and the second is the 26.2 marathon mark.
These two routes are the traditional ones that have been used for previous MFM events. They were created with much thought to the interests of our runners and his/her capabilities. The route begins and ends on West Hills Road in front of the Walt Whitman High School Campus. The route is an exceptionally scenic one with challenging hills as well as wonderfully winding flat lands. The route for these two events are listed and marked on the RaceJoy APP.
These three options are a wonderful addition to our event because they let you walk/run .....anywhere.....at any time that is convenient to you! It doesn't get any better than that. The time frame will be the same as all of our events which is Sunday, May 9th through Sunday, May 23rd. All other plans are yours alone. Step out your front door, walk the school district's track, use your treadmill at the gym.....anywhere, anytime you want!
This event is set up for our younger participants. It will be 1 mile in distance. The location and date/time is entirely up to you.
The time frame for all events will begin on Sunday, May 9 and complete on Sunday, May 23, 2020.
Anywhere you want!!
Any participants out of the community area will be handled personally. Please contact 631-812-3015
