Rain Update: The 5K is continuing as scheduled. Because of the heavy rain, we will modify the course on Shore Blvd but still expect to have a wonderful morning to run together, listen to great live music and learn about a Green New Deal.  The registration desk will be at the base of the Great Lawn in Astoria, visible from Shore Blvd between the Triboro Bridge and Hell Gate Bridge.

The Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez 5K & 1K Kid Dash is a Family Fun Run supporting U.S. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal on the Saturday following Earth Day. The course will take you around Astoria Park and along the beautiful waterfront on Shore Blvd in Astoria, Queens. It is easy, mostly flat and fast.

All participants are guaranteed a limited edition Green New Deal 5K Race Shirt.  Registration by April 21 guarantees that your shirt will be available on race day. Participants who register after April 21 may receive their shirt via U.S. mail following the race.

We ask all runners to support U.S. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal.

Use mass transit when possible. The N / W, Q100 & Q69, and NYC Ferry are all nearby. Two Citi Bike docking stations are also located at Astoria Park.  Free parking is available on site. Please carpool if driving.

Come and enjoy the beauty of New York's 14th Congressional District. This event will comply with the City of New York Parks and Recreation GREEN EVENT GUIDELINES.

Location:  Astoria Park, Queens starting on Shore Blvd near the Astoria Park parking lot.

Virtual Run Details: The concept is simple. Register for the event, make the donation to support U.S. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal then complete the distance. This could be during a training run, on a treadmill, as part of a running group or just as a personal challenge. Make sure you record your distance on a running app or watch. Submit your evidence of the run and of your donation to us via email. Your Green New Deal 5K race shirt and race bib will then be sent to you in the mail. (U.S. residents only who can not attend the 5K in person).

Volunteer: The success of our event depends on volunteers like you! Each volunteer's contribution, large or small, is critical! We welcome volunteers with a wide range of talents and skills. There is only one requirement: a desire to support the Green New Deal. We welcome volunteers of all abilities and talents to assist with a variety of volunteer opportunities on race day. Youth volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult chaperone/supervisor.  Please contact thayes@runningforsomething.com if you would like to volunteer.

Race Timing: This is a Fun Run. We are not a USATF timed & certified 5K, we cannot guarantee that our course is exactly 5K (though we did everything to be as accurate as possible). Bibs and race clocks will be in use so you can see your time at the finish.

Parking lot access is available off the corner of Hoyt Avenue North & 19th Street. The nearest subway stop is Astoria Blvd of the N or W trains.  NYC Ferry service access currently stops nearby at 3-10 Astoria Blvd., Astoria, NY 11102.
