Description

Our 16th Annual 5K Run for Fun / 1M Walk for Wellness will be hybrid, with the IN PERSON event on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at CP Rochester, 3399 Winton Road S. Rochester, NY. This USATF certified 5K Course (NY17100KL) is mostly flat and runs through a residential neighborhood with one or two gentle hills. Runners should get excellent times from this course! All proceeds from this event help fund programs and services offered through CP Rochester, Happiness House, and Rochester Rehabilitation, which provide services to adults and children with physical, intellectual, and developmental disabilities. These programs and services include physical, occupational, and speech therapies; housing; early intervention and preschool programs; day and community habilitation; respite care; recreational and adapted sports programs; employment services; family support; and more.

will be available in the bus loop at CP Rochester (3399 Winton Rd, Rochester) Friday, April 30 from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Please note: You can not change waves.  If you are late for your wave your time still starts at the time noted on the wave sheet.  Race morning please adhere to all social distancing directives so waves can be moved from pod to pod swiftly and accordingly.

COVID-19 Guidelines

Due to the current COVID-19 global pandemic, we are taking extra precautions to ensure the safety of our staff, participants, volunteers, and the general community.  Please watch your emails closely for information regarding packet pick-up and any other race updates. As part of the registration process, everyone must sign and adhere to this COVID-19 section of the waiver.

In-Person Racers:

  1. Masks must be worn until “GO” is announced and you cross the start line and immediately following the finish of your race.
  2. All athletes are required to carry hydration with them while on the course; there are no water stops on the course.
  3. Warm-ups are to be completed prior to arrival at the race. Nowhere on the race-site are warm-ups permissible.
  4. Post-race food will be prepackaged and in a to-go bag. Bags will be handed out to you near the finish line upon completion of your 5K Run / 1 Mile Walk.
  5. Remain physically distant by a minimum of 6 feet at all times, and no congregating before or after the 5K Run / 1 Mile Walk.
  6. Pre-race packet pickup will be Friday, April 30th from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Items will be pre-bagged and labeled with your name on them. Items will include a race bib, a face mask, and a ticket for the post-race goodie bag. There is no exchange of masks or bib numbers available.
  7. Throw out any of your own trash, do not toss it on the ground for staff / volunteers / other athletes to clean up.
  8. There will NOT be an in-person awards ceremony. We will congratulate the winners in a post-event video online, and then we will set up times for winners to pick up any awards within a few days after the event is complete.
  9. Please check your email for specific race day and pre-race packet pickup and COVID-19 protocol.
  10. No spectators will be allowed.
  11. Upon completion of the 5K Run / 1M Walk, you must IMMEDIATELY exit the area.  You cannot wait for other athletes as we must maintain capacity and social distance. If you are waiting for family members, we ask that you do so in your vehicle.
  12. Our in-person race is available to NYS residents only. Virtually, participants can race from anywhere.
  13. All athletes will have their temperature taken upon arrival. Be prepared for the COVID-19 questions. Anyone with a temperature higher than 100 degrees will not be allowed to compete and will be asked to leave.
  14. Once you have gotten your temperature checked and are cleared to race, you will be given a sticker, you must make sure your sticker is visible at all times.
  15. There will be hand sanitizer present onsite.
  16. The in-person race will be capped at 100 racers. Racers will be split into four waves depending on their projected finish times. Waves will start every three minutes beginning at 9 a.m.
  17. The course is on open roads, while the police will be present to direct traffic and close part of the course, please stay alert and follow the rules of the road!  You are responsible to know the course as there won't be road marshals due to COVID-19 protocols. There will be signage present for course directions and volunteers on-site to respond to emergencies.

Virtual Racers: 

  1. Packet pickup will be Friday, April 30th from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. Items will be pre-bagged and labeled with your name on them. Items will include a race bib, a face mask, a post-race goodie bag, and a virtual scavenger hunt component.
  2. Virtual racers have from when they pick up their items to Sunday, May 2 at 9 p.m. to complete and submit their race times.
    YellowJacket Racing will post virtual results online after the racers submit their times by 9 p.m. 5/2/2021 and prior to the release of the event video.
  3. Virtual racers are encouraged to submit their own race photos/videos to reike@happinesshouse.org to be included in the event video premier.
  4. There will NOT be an in-person awards ceremony. We will congratulate the winners in a post-event video online, and then we will set up times for winners to pick up any awards within a week after the event is complete.
