Obatron Productions' exercise arm, Obatron Fitness, is proud to introduce a new race series, Holiday Cookie 5 & 10. Enter the whole series or choose individual races. Walker and mobility-impaired friendly. Diet sensitive. Virtual.
The series consists of four race distances: 5K, 5-mile, 10K, and 10-mile. However, if you've been trained up to longer distances, you can add on the Bonus Race for more fives and tens: 10+10+5+1.0+.10+.10 = 26.2!
You pick how many races you want to do: one, some, or all. To do the bonus marathon, you must register for one of the other races. You will have two options for the marathon: single day (completing it in one day, timing it from start to finish, including any breaks) or multi-day (timed by the segment until you get all 26.2 miles within 72 hours, consecutive or not; scored separately from the single day marathon participants).
Wherever you want! Hit the road, traverse a trail, step up to a treadmill, or make endless loops throughout your home. Just be sure to record each activity so you can submit the time for each one.
You can race on any day from 12 a.m. on Friday, 12/10, through 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, 12/29. That's 20 days to make as many of the races happen as you choose! Enter your race times at each specific event's Results page by 9 a.m. EST on Thursday, 12/31.
The 5K, 5-Mile, 10K, 10-Mile, and Marathon, if you're doing it, should all be done as separate events. You do not have to do them consecutively! Ex. You can do a 5K on 12/16, the 5-Mile on 12/19, the 10K on 12/22, and the 10-Mile on 12/26, and the marathon, if you're doing it, on 12/29 for one day or 12/27-12/29 or 12/22, 12/25, 12/26, and 12/28 for multi-day. Or, you can do a 5K and 10K consecutively in the same day and the other two races (three if doing the marathon) later. However you want to get them in, is up to you.
Double-dipping is discouraged as it pertains to counting lower distances as individual efforts within a longer distance that is being recorded for this challenge. In the end, it's up to you how you count your races. However, you will miss out on points if you count all your distances for the marathon, for example, since they'd all be part of the same route. Same with the race reports. You'd only have one event for all of it. (Yes, we realize people could choose to be dishonest about what pictures belong with what portion of their route, but most people won't be.)
Series participants get even more!
Sponsor prizes include RunGoo, training by Obatron Fitness (us!), and other goodies as sponsors sign on.
Medals: If you don't enter your race time on time, we won't be able to send you a fully personalized medal (and you won't be in the results for individual races or the series). No times will be accepted after cutoff. Simply go to the Results page and click on "Submit Virtual Results" for each race you entered.
Cookie Kits: At registration, you'll have several choices about flavors, dietary specifications, and the like. One option is "None of these." If you choose that, you will not get any choices being offered. It makes for a slim kit. You could always give things away! If you don't choose anything, including "None of these," we will randomly pick things for you. You get one Cookie Kit. The more races you do, the more goes into your kit.
Winter Hat: All racers get a winter hat! Choose at registration if you want a pom-pom or not. (Series entrants won't have that option at sign-up as we can only define one "giveaway" per event, but should choose one in the store that will show up before you check-out.)
Series Hoodie: Hoodies are free for series participants only. If you want a free hoodie, sign up for the series. (That's the 5K, 5-Mile, 10-K, and 10-Mile.) If you sign up for one and then decide you want to do the whole thing, you must contact us beforehand to get a coupon code for the amount already paid to reduce the price of the series. You can also buy a hoodie in the store before you check-out. Racers have until 12/30/2020 to choose or update their sizes.
Packet Pick-up/Delivery/Shipping: Some items cannot be ordered until the series concludes. Chances are those items will arrive mid- to late-January. Local racers will have no fewer than four dates within two weeks of their arrival from which to choose to meet the race director to pick up their packets (swag). Anyone within Monroe County who cannot pick up their packets during any of the offered dates will get their packets delivered in person by arrangement after the group pick-ups have passed. Anyone outside Monroe County who can't make a pick-up will receive their packets by USPS as soon as they are packed after fulfillment.
Free training assistance for those who choose it. You must register for at least one race to qualify.
Entering the series rather than individual races gets you a smaller per race entry fee than the sum of individual race fees, a lower RunSignUp fee than the sum of the fees when registering separately, and a series gift. The training offered through the series registration page is at a much reduced price including bonus workouts not normally offered with Obatron Fitness group training. If you are a member of any club with a presence on RunSignUp (ex. GRTC, Fleet Feet Race Team, Medved, or Obatron Fitness), you get a discount at checkout for that. Finally, if you join a group/team within this race at registration, you get partial refunds when you get to enough people (detailed earlier in this section). Additionally, you may earn back some of your registration by having other racers use your personal referral link, generated after you register. See the "Referrals" section for more information.
No formal placement awards are planned for winners, but there will be acknowledgements for Top and Tenacious finishes for each race and the series. However, you are encouraged to enter your time to establish a race history, be able to create a finisher's certificate, and to embrace the fun of it. Besides, you never know what may happen as the series gets underway! (I've been known to surprise people.)
If there are three or more groups/teams formed, there will be a small bonus prize for members of the most active group in the Earned Extras challenges. If there are five or more, there would also be acknowledgement of the Top and Tenacious Team finishes.
There will be series hoodies, race medals, goodies, recipe contest winner kits, and Earned Extras. Plus, the more sponsors and participants we get, the more goodies we can put in your packet.
As our sponsors come on board and provide logos, a full list will be available on our sponsors page. If you know someone who you think would be a good sponsor, let them know to contact the race director at firstname.lastname@example.org. Sponsors provide discounts, prizes, or both and make their clients aware of the series in exchange for advertising and an optional discount for their clients.
We have Foot Kinetics, RoadiD, and a Secret Santa.
I will post additional details as they are finalized. Any changes will be updated here, on the Obatron Fitness Facebook page, in our Facebook group, and communicated through RunSignUp messaging.
We recognize there are those who would rather not pick male or female when asked to choose. RunSignUp is finally offering some options, but they're in testing, so we don't know exactly what that's going to look like in registration or with results.

There will be several days offered to meet with the race director in Greece, NY after all items are received. We are not ordering ahead of time to enable as many people as possible, including last minute folks, to participate. If you can't make it and you are within driving distance of the race director (mostly Monroe County, NY), your items will be delivered to you after all pick-up dates have passed. For those who live beyond driving distance, your items will be mailed once they've been packed.
