Description

The Southold Run for the Soldiers is a 5K race through the scenic and historic town of Southold, New York. The Run for the Soldiers 5K is in remembrance of all fallen Global War on Terror Sailors and Service Members and dually in support of those who returned but sacrificed their wellbeing to support freedom. All ticket sales and sponsorship dollars are being donated in their honor to the Wounded Warrior Project and Hope for the Warriors.
After more than a decade of continuous conflict in the Middle East, more than 6,800 service members have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of our great nation. Each day within the ranks of the U.S. Military, our nation’s finest men and women perform extraordinary acts of selfless service to keep each of us free and safe. As the conflicts wind down, the need for support increases for those who made it home with physical and emotional scars from their time overseas.
In preparation for sustained conflict, the U.S. military spent millions to equip our Soldiers with the latest safety equipment and advanced battlefield medical techniques. The considerable investment in technologies and medical treatments made possible the homecoming of over 52,000 wounded veterans not including the 320,000 Soldiers with Traumatic Brain Injuries, or the 400,000 Soldiers with the invisible scars of Post Traumatic Brian Injuries.
The need for support is growing and the Office of Veteran’s Affairs is struggling to support the influx of veterans in need, especially those distanced from Veteran’s Affairs support facilities. Countless organizations exist solely to support the growing numbers of U.S. Veterans in need of unique care and support these include the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) and Hope for the Warriors, which provide transitional support for our Wounded Veterans.
Sign up today and show your patriotism and support for your nation’s service members while enjoying a run in the heart of Long Island’s wine county. Each runner makes a tremendous difference and directly impacts the lives of our nation’s most deserving.

Wounded Warrior Project® began 10 years ago when several veterans and friends, moved by stories of the first wounded service members returning home from Afghanistan and Iraq, took action to help others in need. What started as a desire to provide comfort items to wounded service members has grown into a holistic, rehabilitative effort to help injured warriors and their families heal from both visible and invisible wounds.
WWP now marks its 10-year anniversary with the theme, "A Decade of Service. A Lifetime of Commitment."
