Additional Race Information

The Staten Island Triathlon/Duathlon on 8/13/23 is one of our most important race each racing season.  Is always sold out with 300+ participants.  The race is very important because this is the race we dedicated and honored Rocco Laurie, a Vietnam veteran and NYPD officer, lost his life while serving his fellow NY’ers in 1972. Larry Ambrosino, chair of the Rocco Laurie Scholarship Fund, came up with the idea for a race in Staten Island to remember his Mariners Harbor roots and friend.  In additions, many athletes are peaking in August and competing in this race to test themselves and to set new personal records.
This year is even more special because many are training for the NYC Jones Beach half ironman!  This is the only triathlon we are able to close down the entire road, Father Capodanno Blvd, just for the bike course, all 12 miles of it and with police marshals.  The water and current condition in the Midland Beach has always been calmer than some of our other open water swim.  We are expecting a sunny morning, same as last year.
The race starts at 7:30 am at the transition/start/finish area by the baseball field, at the west end of the Father Capodanno Blvd.  Parking is at Lot 9, by the Lincoln Ave, not too far from the transition area.  For the triathlon, the swim begins .25 miles to the East of the transition area.  For the duathlon, the first run starts on the boardwalk, just off the comfort station, and is total of 2 miles on the boardwalk (out and back format).  For the bike course, both triathlon and duathlon are racing total of 12 miles on the Father Capodanno Blvd.  Is 3 loops, and 4 miles per loop.  The final run for both triathlon and duathlon is 3 miles total.
The course is flat with no significant elevation changes, if at all.  It could be windy of course.
