MAD MILE VIRTUAL RACE 2020

UPDATE 3/13/2020

LINK TO REPORT YOUR VIRTUAL RACE RESULTS

Mad Mile 2020 is being transitioned to a virtual race. We invite you to run one mile on your own, self-timed, this weekend and report your results to us by 3/15/2020. We'll post results on this page and announce overall and age group winners. All runners may pick up their race t-shirt and medal starting 3/14 at The Sneaker Store through the end of March. Winners will be contacted via email to pick up their overall and age group prizes after 3/15. Join the Facebook Group "Mad Mile 2020" on our @TheSneakerStoreNewHartford Facebook page here. Post your results along with a photo(s) of your virtual race on the group page and we'll select two winners from these photos for the "Best Irish Outfit" award. All registered participants who choose to participate in the virtual race or not, will receive a discount on next year's registration. An email will go out prior to the opening of 2021 registration.

All results are self-reported and on your honor. You can run your mile on a trail or treadmill, sidewalk or track - it's up to you! We will not be holding an in-person race on 3/14. Not knowing when the St. Patrick's Day Parade will be rescheduled, we wanted to still have some fun and make sure you get your swag. When the parade is re-scheduled, we will work out an in-person fun run to coincide. Stay tuned for announcements on scholarship and charitable contributions that WILL STILL BE MADE to the Jessica Cooper Scholarship Fund and Great American Irish Festival from the race proceeds.

Mad Mile Community-
We regretfully have come to the decision to postpone the 2020 St. Patrick’s Day Mad Mile on Saturday, March 14th due to the recommendations of health officials and our local government in these unprecedented times. According to our race policy, as the Utica parade has been postponed, we will also postpone the race. This was a very difficult decision to make, and we appreciate that the safety and well-being of our runners and volunteers is the most important factor in the decision-making process. We appreciate your understanding. At this time, there is not further information regarding rescheduling the race. As soon as further details are available, we will keep you informed.

Here Are Your Options:

Virtual races happen all the time, and allow you to join the fun without the crowds. You simply run the distance on your own, and report your results - we’ll send you instructions via email.

The Sneaker Store's Jessica Cooper St. Patrick's Day Mad Mile is the best way to kick of a great St. Patrick's Day! It's our 3rd Annual race this year, and it will be bigger and better!  Bring your family, your friends, and your best Irish outfit, and get ready to dash down the Genesee Street parade route just ahead of the Utica St. Patrick's Day Parade.  With a built-in cheering crowd, this one-mile course with elevation drop will get you revved up to enjoy the day's festivities.

The race kicks off at 9:45 am, sharp on Saturday, March 14th.  We'll gather for the Start on Clinton Place at Genesee Street, and move to the start line on Genesee Street at 9:40 am.  As you can expect road closures and delays, please plan accordingly for parking and extra time to walk to the start.  We cannot delay the start as the parade goes off at 10:00.  Please be aware of your surroundings, as parade floats will be lining up near the start line.  The 1-mile race course is a straight shot down Genesee Street (hello, downhill!), ending at Colombia Street where we will gather for results (TNT Timing) and prizes (Courtesy of The Sneaker Store).  Then you can relax, enjoy the parade (we have a perfect view from our finish line area!!!), and maybe even wander down to Varick Street for some more celebrating!

A portion of the proceeds will go to the St. Patrick’s Day Parade put on by the Great American Irish Festival. The Irish Festival's mission is to promote Irish culture, history, dance, language, etc.  The corporation’s purpose is solely for charitable and educational efforts. This is a race you can feel good about entering!  Register now for just $25, including a t-shirt , design created by The Sneaker Store's own Scott Young, but don't wait, the price goes up to $30 on race day!  T-Shirt sizes are guaranteed through 3/4/20, and after that will be first come, first served.

Registration:

  • Pre-Register Online at RunSignUp.com through Thursday, 3/12.  Cost is $25 and includes a t-shirt.  *T-shirt sizes are guaranteed only through 3/4/20
  • Register In Person at the Sneaker Store on 3/13 OR near the start line on Clinton Place on Saturday, 3/14.  Cost is $30 and we cannot guarantee t-shirt sizes.

Packet Pickup:

  • Friday, March 13 from 4:00-7:00 at The Sneaker Store, 4490 Commercial Drive, New Hartford.
  • Saturday, March 14th from 8:30-9:15 near the start line on Clinton Place near Genesee Street.
  • We strongly encourage registrants to pick up race packets on Friday, as it is imperative that the race starts on time.  If you must pick up your race packet on Saturday, please plan extra time for parking and lines.

*Special Note Regarding Weather* - If the Utica St. Patrick's Day Parade is postponed for any reason, the St. Patrick's Day Mad Mile race and packet pick-ups will be postponed along with the parade, and refunds cannot be issued.  Please dress festively, but appropriately for weather conditions!

This year's Mad Mile is dedicated to our dear friend, Jessica Cooper, who ran her first ever race at the 2019 Mad Mile and rocked it. 2020 won't be the same without her, but we hope you'll join us and run your best race in her memory, whether it's your first or your five hundredth race, fast or slow, give it your best and finish with a smile.
