The option to transition to a virtual race is now closed. For those who requested a refund, it will take approximately 14 days from the date of the race (March 22nd) to process the refunds. We are working very hard to get this money back to you and appreciate your patience.

Based on the way our Race Page works, we must transfer the race funds back to the RunSignUp website before they will start releasing funds to participants.

This race honors 13 graduates of the United States Military (West Point) who were Killed in Action serving our country. Hello Racers! 

Thank you for the continued patience as our team works through the conversion of our race to a Virtual Race. We already have 163 people signed up to compete in the Virtual Race!

If you have already gone to the race web page and selected whether you want a refund or switched to the Virtual Race, you can skip to the bottom of this section for information about what comes next.
////For those who have not decided what you want us to do with your registration, you need to navigate to the race homepage and make a selection by 8:00am on March 22nd, 2020. You will see two options: “Switch to Virtual Race” or “Get a Refund” when you get to the race webpage. Please select one of the two options. Once you click your option, our system will update. To prevent people from having to re-register, we had to change the name of the event to Virtual Race so for those who select “Switch to Virtual Race,” you may get a message saying that you have already switched. That is, unfortunately, a slight bug in the RunSignUp page that we cannot avoid right now. If you would like confirmation about whether you have successfully been moved to the Virtual Race, please email us at FallenComradesRun@gmail.com. If an individual does not make a selection by March 22nd, they will be issued a refund. ////
On March 22nd, we will send out a link to everyone signed up for the Virtual Race so that you can submit your times. You will have until April 15th to submit a time. After April 16th, we will begin mailing packages out to Virtual Race participants (note, an option to pick up your package will be available for those living on/near USMA).

For individuals wanting a refund, we will not start processing refunds until after March 22nd. This allows everyone enough time to switch to the Virtual Race if desired. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Just a point of clarification for everyone:
Anyone who registered for the race has to navigate to the race web page (https://runsignup.com/…/WestPoint/FallenComradesHalfMarathon), scroll 2/3 of the way down the page, and select either "Switch to a Virtual Race" or "Receive a Refund" no later than March 22nd. We have automatically switched everyone into the Virtual Race but you still have to go in and make your selection prior to March 22nd so we know what you want us to do with your money.

Some answers to questions we have already received:

Q- If I elect to do the Virtual Race, can I still run the route at West Point?
A- We will not be marking the route and cannot assume responsibility for individuals who elect to run / ruck the course. The course map is posted online, however, for those individuals who reside on post and are wishing to run a 13.1 mile route at their convenience.

Q- How will times for the Virtual Race be recorded?
A- We are working on that. The RunSignUp page charges $1 per person to do time submissions. Because we are offering the Virtual Race at the minimum possible cost to our participants, we are not going to use the race website for this. We plan to utilize a Google Form or some other online response system for you to send in your scores. We will email that information to everyone who opts in to the Virtual Race once we have solidified the plan.

Q- How will you determine who wins each category?
A- All Virtual Race participants will have until April 15th to Run / Ruck their Half Marathon and submit their times. On April 16th, we will identify the fastest times, by category, and ask those individuals to provide proof of their time (Strava, Garmin, Apple, Signed Witness Statement, etc). Once times (and weights for Ruck March) are verified, we will ship prizes to the winners. This is the best answer we have on this for now!

Q- When will I receive my shirt, bib, and medal if I signed up for the Virtual Race?
A- At this time, we do not expect to ship anything until after April 16th so that everyone has an opportunity to complete the race.

Q- When will I receive my refund?
A- At this time, we expect this process to take at least 10-14 days. It is dependent upon when we can send all of the race funds back to RunSignUp which is a process we have not had to deal with before. We ask for your patience in this.

Q- I am doing the Virtual Race, when do I receive the refund for the difference in my original race registration and the cost of the Virtual Race?
A- As stated above, we cannot start to issue refunds until we transfer funds back to RunSignUp. We will keep everyone updated on this situation and appreciate your patience.

Welcome to the West Point Half-Marathon - Fallen Comrades Run website! Lace up your running shoes to race with cadets, veterans, and supporters while touring a national historical site. You can view the course map and information at the bottom of this page. There is limited availability so register soon!

Fallen Comrades:  
This race is dedicated to those members of the Long Gray Line who have gone to war and paid the ultimate sacrifice.  Each mile marker will memorialize different fallen comrades from all of our nation’s wars as a tribute.  We honor them as individuals as we test ourselves on this challenging, beautiful course; we celebrate their memory as we build camaraderie through friendly competition.

Cadets: $25 online until March 1st. ($35 after March 1st; $40 day of)
General Entry: $65 online until March 1st. ($80 after March 1st; $85 day of)
Kids race: $5 ($10 after March 1st)

Race Day Guidance:
NOTE: West Point has changed the way in which you access the installation. Government identification will be required to enter post. You can call the USMA Visitors Center at 845-446-4724 to check if your type of identification is valid. Inform them that the Half Marathon has "Special Event Status."

     0715 - Race Morning Packet-pickup opens
     0750 - Opening remarks and national anthem for Ruck March
     0800 - Ruck Division begins the course
     0850 - Opening remarks and national anthem
     0900 - Run Division begins the course
     0920 - Kids Race
     1130 - Awards ceremony (pending athlete completion of the race)
     1300 - Roads reopen and course closes

-Parking is available in A-lot, B-lot or Buffalo Soldier Field. A-lot is recommended, it is the parking immediately adjacent to the stadium.
-From Stony Lonesome Gate (recommended): After entering the gate, continue along Stony Lonesome Rd down the hill and you'll see signs directing you to A-lot on the right near the NE corner of the stadium.

Q- When is packet pickup? 

A-We will have early bib and shirt pickup for Cadets on Friday and the general public on Saturday. Friday packet pickup will be in Central Area from 1200-1700 (look bright yellow Army Marathon Shirts). Saturday packet pickup will be at West Point Visitor Center, located at 2107 New South Rd, West Point, NY 10996 from 1000am – 200pm. If you are able, we highly encourage you to pick up your race bib during one of these early pick up times in order to avoid the lines on race day. Day-Of pickup in Michie Stadium will being at 715am and end at 850am. If you are going to pick up your bib the day of the race, we encourage you to arrive early to allow extra time for pickup and bag check.


Q - Are walkers allowed to participate?

A - Yes.  The course will be open for 4 hours to accommodate ruck marchers and walkers. However, if you plan to walk, we ask you start with the ruck march group at 800am.

Q - Can I use a jogging stroller and run with my children?

A - Yes. However, please seed yourself accordingly. There are some decent hills along the course so be prepared to push hard!


Q - If I am trying to watch the race, where is the best location to see the runners?

A - There are several great spots.  If you're at the stadium  you can see the runners 3 times (start, 9.5mi, finish).   The runners will pass by Trophy Point twice (2.5mi, 12mi) and you'll get a great view of the campus and the Hudson River.  Or if you live on base in Lee, Grey Ghost, or New Brick housing, you can just relax on your front porch because the route likely travels right down your street!


Q - If I'm a parent, can I run with my child during the kid's race?

A - Absolutely!  We'll have cadets at the corners to guide our young athletes around the turns, but you're welcome to run alongside or relax along the stone wall and watch them make the loop.


Q - Are pets allowed at the race?

A - Pets are allowed on post (on leash please), however, we can't have any furry friends running in the race.


Q - How can I get to West Point from NYC?

A - The Hudson Line runs from Grand Central to Garrison station and from there, all cab companies will be able to take you to West Point. There are hotels near West Point if you choose to stay overnight in Highland Falls, NY. The Thayer hotel is the closest to the race.   http://www.thethayerhotel.com/


Q - Are there activities for my family/friends while I run the race?

A - West Point is a beautiful historic area. There are many sights to see including Trophy Point, the visitors museum and tours which start right outside of Thayer Gate from the museum. 


Q - What steps are you taking regarding the COVID-19 virus? 

A-As precautionary steps to protect against the spread of COVID-19, we are adding additional safety measures to our event:

1) All volunteers handling water, Gatorade, food, or race medals will wear protective gloves.

2) Participants will be encouraged to stay at least 6 feet away from anyone not in their immediate family. (A step implemented by the LA Marathon last weekend).

3) Embracing and hugging at the finish line will be discouraged for anyone outside of a racers’s immediate family.

4) Post-race food will be served by gloved volunteers into small containers. Racers will not be allowed to grab food out of the serving trays.

5) Hand sanitizer will be readily available at check-in and near the post-race food. 

6) If you do not feel well, please stay at home for the safety of your fellow runners and our volunteers


Q- Is bag check available? 

A-We are only accepting CLEAR bags at the bag check. When you pick up your race packet, we will have clear drawstring bags available for your convenience. We ask that you leave all other bags at home or in your vehicle as they will not be accepted at bag check and cannot be left out in the stadium due to security measures. Only the clear bag we issue you at bib pick up is authorized for storage at bag check. 

Q - Can someone else pick up my race packet for me?

A - Yes! Please send them with a picture of your photo ID so we can confirm they have your permission to pick up in your place.

The scenic and challenging course starts and ends at Michie Stadium. Over 13.1 miles, racers tour nearly all of West Point's beautiful and historic campus. A couple loops will take you past Trophy Point, by the Hudson River, and past the famous granite buildings of Cadet Area. The course is best known for its challenging hills: the Hudson Highlands are not forgiving!
