The Iron Horse 4 miler will raise funds to be donated to the ALS Ride for Life for their patient services at the Stony Brook Neuromuscular Disease and Christopher Pendergast ALS Center of Excellence. A program that provides best-in-class care with a collaborative approach to ensure quality of life for those living with ALS and their families. Currently there is no cure and is always 100% fatal.
A note from the race director:
My family has had multi-generational familial diagnosis of the fatal disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Familial ALS accounts for 5 to 10 percent of all ALS cases. This race is honor of my mom, Sally and all those living with ALS and their families.
In honor of Sally Horst and her love for a good foot race at the finish, the female, male, and non-binary athletes who runs the last 100m in the fastest time will be awarded $100 cash.
Are you a mother runner tired of not getting enough recognition for pushing your small human during a race? Maybe you're an exhausted parent and the only way your small human will sleep is in a stroller going for a run. This division is for you.
Top Female, Male & Non-binary athletes pushing a stroller will receive a cash award.
Early packet pickup will take place at Sayville Running Company (19 Main St. Sayville) on Friday, July 14th from noon until 5:00pm. Participants are welcome to have someone else pick up their bib for them.
Packets may also be picked up on race morning at the Long Island Maritime Museum on West Ave in West Sayville from 7:00am until 8:15am.
Awards will be given to the top three finishers starting at ages 10 and under, and then 5-year age groups up to 85+.
First 250 registrants are guaranteed a comfort colors t-shirt in their size (youth and toddler sizes available).
Donate an extra $100 and have your family listed as a sponsor on the back of the race shirt.
