Run for Bereda

On July 18, 2017, the Bereda family experienced an unimaginable tragedy. Brennen (5) and Finley (1) were killed in a motor vehicle accident. Jorden, 3, and Christina were both injured and taken to the hospital.

Christina and her family are avid members of the running community.  Christina is from Westfield, NY and graduated from Westfield Academy Central School. To show community support  for her and her family in this very difficult time, we created a 5k race (run or walk) and fun run for the kids that will take place after the 5k. Local law enforcement will be present to guide participants along the route.  The kids route will be 4 laps around Welch Field (1 mile total).   Children are encouraged to wear costumes. Activities for the children will also be provided and include face painting, pumpkin and rock painting, and creative caring station.  All children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.  

Many of you may have contributed in one form or another to the virtual run or on the YouCaring website.  Feel free to add an additional donation on race day at the event or just register for the event and show your support in the run itself.  For first time donations we would ask that you donate $20 (to be paid  via cash or check payable to the 'Bereda Children's Memorial Fund' on the day of the race); however the event is not meant to be cost prohibitive, so please donate what will work best for you.  All proceeds will directly benefit the Bereda Children's Memorial Fund.  $20 donations will receive a shirt commemorating the run (limited supply; first come first serve).  We will have water and juice available for participants. Food will be available in the Welch Field Fieldhouse beginning around 11:00 (donations encouraged). 

The race will not be timed as the goal is to show support for our fellow community member. We will also have blank ones available the day of the race.   The event will occur rain or shine. 

We are also accepting donations for a basket raffle on the day of the event.  Please use the race contact information below if you are able to donate to the basket raffle or drop off your donation at Welch Field on Friday, October 27th between 5-8pm. 

As mentioned above, we encourage everyone to register online, and bring cash or check for the registration costs/donations on the day of the race. Exact change is appreciated. Cash will be accepted for the basket raffle. Tickets will be $10 for a sheet of 25 tickets. There will also be a 50/50 raffle; tickets are $1 a piece or 6 for $5. Again, exact change is appreciated. 

Following is a race day timeline.  Please note that times are approximate:

• 9:00 am - Race Registration and DJ begins
• 9:00 am - 12:00 pm - Raffle tickets and 50/50 tickets sold
• 9:45 am - Opening Remarks 
• 10:00 am - 5k run/walk begins 
• 11:00/11:15 am - Kids' one mile fun run begins 
• 11;00 am - Food served in the fieldhouse (chili, subs, sides, cake)
• 12:00 pm - Last call for raffles
• 12:15 pm - Basket raffle winners announced
