2021 DESIGNATED CHARITY
Rosa Parks Memorial Scholarship for Girls on the Run of the Triangle
Rosa Louise McCauley Parks (1913-2005) was an American activist in the civil rights movement best known for her pivotal role in the Montgomery bus boycott. The United States Congress has called her "the first lady of civil rights" and "the mother of the freedom movement".
In the spirit of her commitment to social activism, Together We Stand NC, Vecino Brewing, and Ponysaurus Brewing, have created a scholarship to annually support 15 girls for a season of Girls on the Run in the Triangle. The scholarship will begin with the fall 2021 season.
Girls on the Run of of the Triangle is an independent council of Girls on the Run International, established in 2000 to serve Wake, Durham and Orange, Chatham and Johnston Counties. Since inception, we've served more than 18,000 girls all across the Triangle. The true success of the program, however, is not told in the numbers, but in the words of the girls who participate. “I know that whatever I set my mind to do, I can do.” “As a Girl on the Run I learned how to be comfortable in my own skin!” Girls on the Run believes that all girls and communities should have access to our programs. We strive to eliminate barriers to participation, to continue creating programming that engages all communities, to be intentional about staff and volunteer diversity, and to promote a culture of inclusion across the organization.
