If your travel plans do not allow you to be able to get to the expo during the above hours, you can purchase bib shipment in advance to your home or office (not applicable for the 5K). There is a $35 fee for this service and the shipment only includes your bib, (4) safety pins and an event information page. Please note: Bib Mailing only includes the items listed above and does not include your participant shirt or additional race materials. Your shirt will need to be picked up on race day in the Santa Ana Pavilion after you finish.
-
Bibs will be shipped to the address on file 2 weeks prior to race day to ensure ample time for you to receive it. The OC Marathon is not responsible for addresses that have been changed after the shipment date. Please double check your address when registering for the race.
-
Important: Bib shipment is subject to a cutoff date when bibs are sent to the printer typically around the end of March/early April (exact date subject to change).
-
It depends. In some years, we offer an on-site registration booth at the Expo and Finish Line Festival where participants can sign up for the following year's event. If on-site registration is not available, registration will open online at a later date. Be sure to check our website and social media channels for the latest registration announcements.
Race Questions: 5K
The 5K course is absolutely walker friendly. Choose the 5K Walk event during registration to be placed in the walker corral on race day.
The official 5K course time limit is 1.5 hours. However, no matter how long it takes, we'll be waiting at the finish line to cheer you on and present you with your finisher medal.
There are ample restrooms at the start/finish line at the OC Fair & Event Center. On course restrooms are not available.
-
Yes! Baby strollers and jogging strollers are welcome in the 5K. We just ask that participants with strollers start toward the back of the field for everyone's safety.
-
If your child is 18 months or older, we ask that you register them for the race as well (age-based discounts apply at checkout). We have found that children around 18 months and older want the medal, which is only given to registered participants wearing a bib when crossing the finish line. .
-
If your child is younger than 18 months, they do not need to be registered, but a signed waiver is still required. To obtain a waiver, please email info@ocmarathon.com or visit the solutions booth on race day.

Race Questions: Half & Full
Most consistently, the day begins in the mid-high 50°s and tops out somewhere in the 70°s. If the clouds burn off, it can get warm with our warmest day nearing 80° around noon. While we always hope for no rain, a light drizzle can be possible in the morning. We suggest checking the weather in the week leading up to the race to be sure.
Both the full and half course are net downhill, starting at 170′ and ending at 60′. The courses reach a high point just after mile 1 at 260′ and the lowest point is at mile 7 at 10′. The first few miles are rolling but there are two hills on the half marathon, just after mile 7 (55′ total) and at mile 11 (45′) and on the full marathon, the overpass at mile 14 looms large but has only 50′ of elevation change. The most common comment we get is, “it was hillier than I thought but I got a pr.”
The half & full marathon courses are absolutely walker friendly! Walkers that fall behind will be asked to utilize sidewalks and intersection walkways as any normal pedestrian. We provide turn-by-turn instructions and a bottle of water to those that request. No matter how long it may take you, we will be at the finish line for you and you will get your medal.
-
The official course time limit is a 16:00 per mile pace (3.5 hours for the Half Marathon and 7 hours for the Full Marathon).
-
Participants are not required to leave the course if they fall behind this pace. However, once the official time limit has passed, the course will begin to reopen to vehicle traffic, aid stations and course signage will be removed, and participants must continue as pedestrians using sidewalks, crosswalks, and following normal traffic laws.
-
A "Balloon Lady" will walk at the back of both the full and half marathon courses at the official 16:00 per mile pace to help participants gauge their progress. If you fall behind her, you can still finish the race, but please be prepared by grabbing a bottle of water at a water station, and following the written instructions posted there for guidance.
-
No matter how long it takes, we'll be waiting at the finish line to cheer you on and present you with your finisher medal.
There will be 7 water/hydration stations on Mile 1-12 (for half and full marathoners) and 8 stations on Miles 13-26. An electrolyte drink (TBD For 2027) will be served at four of the first half stations and at five on the second half. We will have an energy gel/drink at one location on the front half and one on the second half. Please see the COURSE MAP for details!
Yes, there are portable restrooms at each water station! You can view all course support by reviewing the COURSE MAP
Yes, our pacers are provided by A Snail’s Pace Running Store. We have pace teams for all of the milestone times and Boston qualifying times: LEARN MORE HERE
To ensure the safety of all participants, spectators, volunteers, and staff, strollers, jogging strollers, baby joggers, wagons, and other non-authorized wheeled conveyances are prohibited on the marathon and half marathon courses. Participants found using a stroller or similar device may be removed from the course at the discretion of race officials. Registered wheelchairs and approved adaptive athletes are exempt from this policy.
This policy is based on participant safety, course congestion, and event insurance requirements and is consistent with the policies of many of the nation's largest marathon events.
We do allow strollers in our Saturday 5K, although we ask that those using one start near the back of the pack.
For the safety of all participants, In-line skaters, bicyclists, as well as pets will be prohibited on the course.
For the safety of all participants, In-line skaters and bicyclists will be prohibited on the course.
For safety and liability purposes, no pets allowed per OC Fair & Event Center Venue guidelines.
-
Yes, we have UPS as our personal items gear check partner, and they will have UPS trucks at the start line. You will want to use the pull off tab from the top of your bib and place your items in the clear gear check bag that you will receive at the expo. UPS will then deliver your items to the finish line. Trucks will be labeled with a bib # range to make it simple to locate your items.
-
Any clothing left at the start line or anywhere along the course will be collected and donated immediately. Please do not plan on retrieving these items later, as they will not be held or returned.
-
If you do discard your clothing on the course, please do so at a water station!
For your safety, we discourage the use of headphones during the race so you can remain aware of your surroundings, including emergency vehicles or course personnel who may need to communicate with runners. If you choose to wear headphones, please limit use to the out-of-ear bone conduction headphones or use a single earbud so you can better hear what's happening around you.
Yes, the OC Marathon is a Boston qualifier and USATF certified. Please note: your Half Marathon time will not qualify you for Boston.
Visit the information tower, located in the middle of the finish line festival at the OC Fair and Event Center. At the start line, visit the volunteer check in tent.
No problem. Each water station has the ability to call for a sag vehicle to pick you up, bringing you to the finish line. Simply ask a water station volunteer for help and they will let you know the next steps.
-
During race week, all registered participants will receive an email with their bib number, shuttle and corral assignment.
-
Please note: If multiple registrations are registered under the same email address, unfortunately our system will only send out one bib number email to that email address.
-
If for some reason a participant does not receive their information via email or have a confirmation, most issues can be resolved by coming to the OC Lifestyle and Fitness Expo at the OC Fair & Event Center (88 fair drive, Costa Mesa) once the expo has opened and looking up your name/bib number at the laptops provided. If the issue still exists, go to the solutions table and they will be able to assist you. Make sure you have your ID and if possible, a copy of your registration.
Yes! REGISTERED friends and family are welcome to ride the same shuttle, even if they were assigned different shuttle times. Although, if you plan to ride together, we recommend opting for the earlier of the two assigned shuttle times.
To help ensure you make it to the start line on time, please arrive early and allow extra time for traffic, parking, shuttle lines, and getting to the start area before the race begins.
Start Line Questions
-
We suggest parking at the finish line at the OC Fair and Event Center at 88 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa. From the finish area, complimentary shuttle service to the start line runs from 3:45 AM to 5:30 AM for the half and full marathon.
-
Road closures in the finish line area do not start until 6:30 am, so you will not run into road closures while parking at the OC Fair & Event Center
-
Parking at the OC Fair and Event Center will be $15 per day (card payment preferred). To help speed up entry on race morning, you can also purchase your Sunday parking pass for $15 on Friday or Saturday at the expo when you pick up your race bib.
-
There is limited parking at the start line in approved lots only. Please visit the PARKING PAGE for approved parking locations, directions, and additional details. In addition, there are several road closures surrounding the start line, so please follow directions closely.

They begin shuttling runners at 3:45AM and continue with the last bus leaving the OC Fair & Event Center at 5:30 AM. We will send out a shuttle time for each participant. Please ensure the email on your registration is correct. Also, please don’t wait for the later shuttles as they get packed and you will not want to miss the start of your race.
-
Post race shuttles: For participants that park at the start line, there will be shuttle service back to the start following the race. Post race shuttles run from 9 AM – 1 PM, and depart approximately every 15 minutes.
-
Hotel shuttles: Costa Mesa Marriott offers a shuttle to the start and back from the finish. These, if provided, will be organized by the individual hotels, not the OC Marathon. You must confirm the shuttle times and availability with your hotel.
-
If you are getting dropped off or parking at the start line, please plan on arriving at least 1.5 hours before your event start time. Plan for heavy traffic on Jamboree/Coast Hwy, as all vehicles must arrive from Jamboree/Coast Hwy to access runner drop off and/or parking.
Pace group leaders will be holding signs with times on them at the start line. Please make your way to the signs that display the pace group you’re most comfortable with.
Yes! Corrals are assigned based on estimated finish times, with faster runners starting closer to the front. If you'd like to run with a friend, you're welcome to start together in the slower-paced corral. To help ensure a safe and smooth start for everyone, we ask that the faster runner move back to the slower runner's corral rather than the slower runner moving forward.

Spectator Questions
Spectators have two options for parking near the finish line. They can park at the OC Fair & Event Center (Finish Line Venue) or across the street at Orange Coast College in specific approved lots. To avoid road closures, please find the parking information at the bottom of the page HERE.
If a participant plans to take the shuttle from the finish line to the start, spectators should make separate transportation arrangements. Shuttle service is one-way for participants only and cannot return spectators to the finish line.
You can use last year's race program HERE as a reference for recommended spectator viewing locations at various mile markers along the course. Please note that these locations may change due to construction, road closures, or other operational needs. An updated spectator guide will be available closer to race day.
The OC Marathon uses RTRT for race tracking purposes. Download the RTRT.ME app to prepare to track your athlete. OC Marathon & Half Marathon tracking sign up will be available ~2 weeks before race day.
Virtual Runner Questions
Yes! If you're unable to join us in person, you can still participate virtually. Once you complete your virtual event and submit your results, your Legacy and/or Beach Cities Challenge status will remain intact. While we'd love to see you on race day, we're happy to offer a virtual option so you can continue your streak and achieve your goals from wherever you are.
1. Track your run using a virtual fitness tracker (fitbit, strava, runkeeper, etc.)
2. Complete your chosen distance – the virtual 5K, 13.1-mile race (Half Marathon) or 26.2-mile race (Full Marathon) by the end of May.
3. Submit your results using the VIRTUAL RUN SUBMISSION LINK by the end of May! Simply upload a screenshot or a photo of your completed run results from your fitness tracker. If the file format you have chosen doesn’t work, you can forgo uploading a screenshot and simply enter your time.
4. Need help? If you’re having issues with the submission link, please email your results to info@ocmarathon.com, and we’ll be happy to assist you.
5. Receive your race swag! We’ll mail your official OC Marathon shirt and finisher’s medal. If you’ve completed the Beach Cities Challenge, Combo Crush, or earned Legacy status, you’ll be awarded for those as well.
Yes, you can make changes to your event on your Runsignup profile HERE.
You can run your race any time during the month of May, as long as your results are submitted by May 30th.
Participants choose their own race course. We ask that you not run on the roads of the event courses, as they are much different on event weekends due to closures and police assistance with traffic. Should you choose to run a similar course to the actual, you must obey all laws and traffic signals and stay on sidewalks as there will be no police assistance.
Participants who complete a virtual race will receive the same official finisher items as in-person participants, including a finisher's medal, souvenir race bib, and event T-shirt. If you've completed a challenge or earned Legacy status, you'll also receive any applicable challenge medals or Legacy gifts. All participant materials will be mailed after race weekend.
You will receive an email when your virtual race package has shipped. Anticipate receiving it by the end of May.
If your address has changed please be sure to update it on your Runsignup profile using the instructions HERE as soon as possible. Virtual race packages are shipped during the first two weeks of May. To avoid delays and packages returned to sender, please update your address by the end of April.
Virtual participants will not be eligible for age group or overall awards.
Virtual runs are unofficial results and do not count for any qualification standards.
Beach Cities Challenge Questions
The Beach Cities Challenge is a race series that awards a special ocean-themed medal to runners that complete the half or full marathon (5K does NOT count) at each of the three participating events – Surf City Marathon/Half in February, the OC Marathon/Half in May and the Long Beach Marathon/Half in October. Runners can start the challenge at any of the three and will need to do the next two in a row. The races do not have to all be in the same calendar year as long as they are done consecutively.
There is no additional registration for the Beach Cities Challenge. We keep track of your status through your normal event registration. If you use the same name and email address for all 3, you should be good to go!
IF you RAN the half or full at Long Beach in 2025 and Surf City in 2026, you were eligible to receive the Beach Cities medal at OC Marathon 2026.
If you run the OC Marathon in May 2026, then Long Beach 2026 and Surf City 2027, you are eligible to receive your challenge medal at Surf City 2026.
PLEASE NOTE: The races do not have to all be in the same calendar year as long as they are done consecutively.
Locate all challenge medals booths in the Santa Ana Pavilion. After exiting the finish line chute, the Santa Ana pavilion is on the left hand side of the expo and stage.
Yes, running any of the 3 races virtually will maintain your Beach Cities challenge status. They just need to be either the half or full marathon event. The 5K does NOT count.

There are multiple options to suit the needs of your team. Businesses can choose to pay all of the employee registration fees, a percentage of each employee's registration fee, or each individual can pay their own. We will create a plan that works for you! Please email us (info@ocmarathon.com).

-
Fundraising through The OC Marathon can only be done on behalf of Official Charity Partners.
-
Runners in all events can raise funds for an Official Charity Partner to receive a refund for registration fees that were paid (does not include processing fees). See below for the required fundraising threshold to receive a refund for each event:
-
5K: $250
-
Half: $500
-
Full: $750
-
Half Combo: $1,000
-
Full Combo: $1,250
-
Creating a fundraiser outside of the registration process can cause errors in refund automation. However, we can fix this for you by connecting your account with your fundraising page. Please email info@ocmarathon.com and a team member will be in touch with you.
You are eligible to receive a refund up until the fundraising period ends on May 9th, 2027.
If you do not reach your required fundraising minimum to receive your refund, you simply won’t be refunded and all funds you did raise will still be sent to the charity of your choice. No additional charges will be incurred.
