Description
Lace up your running shoes and mark your calendars for a truly special event - the Derek Sheldon Memorial 5K Race. This race is not just about miles; it’s about remembering a remarkable young man.
The Derek Sheldon Memorial 5K was established in honor of Derek Sheldon, a student from Elmwood High School who tragically died just days before his 18th birthday in 2015. In his memory, a scholarship was created. Each year, Derek's family selects an Elmwood Senior who demonstrates the characteristics that are now known as simply "#DerekTough to receive this scholarship. This event will benefit that fund.
Whether you’re a seasoned runner or someone looking to take part in your first 5K, this race welcomes all levels of participants. The 1 mile Kids Run will take place at 9 AM, with the 5K beginning at 9:30. The race will start at the Bloomdale fire department and continue on the quiet, rural roads outside of town.
Let’s run together, remember together, and celebrate together. Join us on October 8th as we honor Derek’s life.
