Description

For those seeking summer shade, start the final month of summer off right with this gem of a race in southeast Columbus. When the dog days of summer arrive in their sweltering haze and the temperatures are hot enough to grill your GU, you can seek the tree-covered paths of the Blacklick Trail to keep you cool while you head out with your friends to take part in this CRC Signature Series race. Go ahead and dare that fiery mass to do its worst, you'll be under a cool green canopy for most of your 5 miles!

Starting at the Jerry L. Garver YMCA, this southeast Columbus race course winds next to Blacklick Creek before ending back at the YMCA where you can cool down and check out all the YMCA has to offer.

2021 Event Option and Status

The 2021 plan for the Blazin' 5 Miler is to host both an in-person event at the Jerry L. Garver YMCA and a virtual event for those who aren't able or choose not to attend the in-person event. If our event has not been granted final approval to proceed in-person by the appropriate permitting entities as of July 1, 2021, all events will be transitioned to virtual. At that time, any changes and all details will be emailed, posted on social media, and posted on the race website.

Additional Race Information

Swag

A hot race demands hot swag, and we're ready to deliver. Sweet tri-blend t-shirts will be given to all Blazin' 5 Miler, as well as a Blazin' 5 Miler finisher medal and a cooling fan to help you beat the summer heat.

Early Packet Pickup (for in-person events only)

All in-person event participants will be required to make use of early packet pickup or race day pickup options. Visit Columbus Running Company's Pickerington location (1250 Hill Rd North) on Friday, August 13, and Saturday, August 14 during normal store hours (Fri 10a-8p, Sat 10a-6p). Race day packet pickup will be available at the event just outside the front door of the Jerry L Garver YMCA on August 15, 2021, beginning at 7 AM. Items not picked up will not be shipped after.

Shipping (for virtual events only)

All virtual event participants will have their swag mailed to them at the shipping address provided during registration. In the unlikely event that all events are virtual, instructions will be sent to those that had initially registered for the in-person event to confirm their shipping address. Please note: all materials will be shipped out on Monday, August 16, 2021.

Your Finisher Medal

This year's Blazin' 5 Miler and Sizzlin' Kids Run finisher medal will be designed in a community contest hosted by the Jerry L. Garver YMCA. As details are finalized for this contest, they will be posted here.

Steps To Complete A Virtual Race

Step 1: Sign up

Sign up for the Blazin' 5 Miler here, and drop some extra in the bucket for YMCA of Central Ohio while you're there!

Step 2: Train

Train to get in shape for your race. Listen to your body and be smart. Looking for a group to connect with to keep you motivated throughout your training cycle? Check out the Rally Columbus group on Facebook, it's full of cheer and motivation to keep you rolling through race day.

Step 3: Participate

Get out during the event time frame (August 15-22) and participate in your race. Choose a safe course, socially distance properly as the current regulations dictate, and have some fun! Share your race photos on social media with the hashtag #blazin5

Step 4: Report

After you've completed your race, you can report your results right from the website's results page. See our How To Report Results page on the site for details.
