The Arnold 5K Pump & Run, which tests overall fitness by measuring both strength and endurance, is the largest race of its kind in the United States.
The race will have a record 1,000 competitors when the 2018 Arnold 5K Pump & Run is held on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at 10:30am. A stand-alone Arnold 5K run is also held on Sunday, March 4 at 9:15am.
Athletes from more than 30 states participated in the 2017 5K Pump & Run. In the competition, participants bench press a percentage of their body weight. Each lift (up to a max of 30) reduces their 5-kilometer run time by 30 seconds.
The Arnold 5K Pump & Run has 10 age / gender divisions. Depending on age, men must bench press 60 to 100 percent of their weight, and women 40 to 70 percent of their weight. U.S. Marine Corps drill instructors oversee the bench press and inspire lifters to their maximum.
Weigh-in and bench press begin at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, March 4. The running portion of the 5K Pump & Run begins at 10:30 a.m. Spectators are welcome and the outdoor portion of the event is free. Admission to the “pump” portion of the Arnold 5K Pump & Run is included in the $15 daily ticket ($10 in advance) to the Arnold Sports Festival.

Athletes can register and pick up their race packet in person at any Columbus Running Company location (Dublin, Short North, Pickerington, Westerville) February 23 - 28, 2018 -- March 1-3, 2018 only at: Short North Columbus Running Company. Or on race day at the north end of the Greater Columbus Convention Center between 7:00a.m. – 8:45a.m. (Race number needs to be worn on the front of your shirt)
This means that the Arnold Pump & Run 5K WILL NOT ISSUE A REFUND for any reason, such as an injury, scheduling conflict, pregnancy, etc. Nor will the Arnold Pump & Run 5K transfer entries from 2018 to 2019. Also, because of liability reasons your Race Number cannot be worn by anyone else than the person the number is assigned. If the race is cancelled due to inclement weather, the race will not be rescheduled and there will be no refund. Your entry fee will be donated to a local running club and the Jeff McGowan Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Special awards will be given to the top five overall men and top five overall women. Olympic size medals will be awarded to all finishers* in the Arnold 5K Pump and Run. (*Athletes need to successfully lift at least one rep and run the 5km). **The top five Arnold 5K Pump and Run awards will be mailed out the week after the event.
Athletes registered in the Arnold 5K Pump and Run will receive free entry into the Arnold Fitness Expo on Sunday, March 5th ($15 value). Your free-entry wrist band can only be picked up at the event on Sunday morning.
No dogs, baby joggers, unregistered runners or inline skates are allowed on the course. Athletes need to finish the course in under 45 minutes.

Jeff was a 1983 graduate of Circleville High School and a 1990 graduate of Ohio University. Jeff set school records at Circleville High School in the 2.5 mile and 5km cross country events as well as in the 800 meters, 1600 meters and 3200 meters. His senior year Jeff placed 3rd in the Ohio High School Athletic Association Cross Country Championships and was second in the 800 meters and 1600 meters at the OHSAA State Track & Field Championships. The 18th annual Arnold 5K Pump and Run on March 4th will kick off the 2018 RUNOHIO Grand Prix Series.

No bench press warm-up will be provided
Entrance to the bench area by race number or wristband only
Start lift with the bar in the extended position
The bar must touch the chest and be fully extended on each press or the rep will not count
Stopping during a press terminates the lift (you may stop in the lock-out position)
No bouncing bar off the chest
Shoulders and rear must stay in contact with the bench during the lift
Feet must remain in contact with the floor during the lift (no hooking bench support with feet/legs)
If necessary, plates may be placed under lifters feet
No belts, wraps, gloves or lifting suits
Judging by US Military (Pershing Rifles) is final, no exceptions
Body weight will be rounded to the nearest five-pound increment (example-181-182 round down to 180, 183 round up to 185)
Weigh-in with running shoes, shorts, and shirt on
