Description
The Doggone Hot Virtual 5K is a virtual race that takes place wherever you are. Join us for a virtual 5K run or walk from July 25th - 31st, 2020. This event takes place in late July, a time of year leading into what some call those "dog days of summer." The event also supports Columbus Humane. 10% of the event proceeds will go to this organization as well as any additional donations. In addition to the benefits for our Human 5K registration (race medal, event tech t-shirt, custom race number), we're also offering Doggie 5K registration complete with special canine benefits (branded doggie bandana and handmade doggie race number).
We may be socially distant, but we can all share these miles in solidarity while supporting a great cause. The steps are simple:

What is a virtual race?
The Doggone Hot Virtual 5K was created during the COVID-19 pandemic. Although we at the Columbus Running Company are race directors and love creating actual in-person races we recognize this is not an option at the moment with the necessary safety measures in place. The purpose of this event is to give runners something to look forward to while raising funds for an organization in need.
Steps To Complete A Virtual 5K
Step 1: Sign up
Sign you (and your pup) up for the Doggone Hot Virtual 5K here, and drop some extra in the bucket for Columbus Humane while you're there!
Step 2: Train
Train to get in shape for your 5K. Listen to your body and be smart. Looking for a group to connect with to keep you motivated throughout your training cycle? Check out the Rally Columbus group on Facebook, it's full of cheer and motivation to keep you rolling through race day.
Step 3: Participate
Get out during the event time frame (July 25-31) and participate in your 5K. Choose a safe course, socially distance properly as the current regulations dictate, and have some fun! Share your race photos on social media with the hashtag #doggonehot5k
Step 4: Report
After you've completed your 5K, you can report your results right from the website's results page. See our How To Report Results page on the site for details.
What Do I Get For Signing Up?
A performance wicking shirt: we use trusted local vendors to help us create a piece that will look awesome and make you feel great on the run!
Medals are always a fantastic reward for a job well done, and we got creative with this one. Check out the graphic below to see the medal you'll receive in your event mailer.
Support an organization in need. Columbus Humane is a local, private 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization with law enforcement responsibilities. Your investment helps animals and people in critical need of support. 10% of this event's proceeds go to Columbus Humane, as well as any additional donations you make during the registration process. Thank you for your generosity.
You get to choose your own course. Always wish that your local 5K would run through that one super gorgeous park? Pick a scenic route there that allows you to be safe. If you signed up your dog for the event, be sure to also provide a safe environment for your pup. Bring water, find some shade, and pay attention to both your body signs and those of your doggo to keep everyone safe.
