Please join us at Scioto Audubon Metro Park just south of Downtown at 9:00 AM on Sunday, March 22nd, 2020, to participate in The Hunger Run 5K and help chase hunger out of Central Ohio! We are hosting the 2nd Annual Hunger Run 5K in support of Neighborhood Services Inc., a local food pantry and resource center located right here in Columbus, Ohio. Our goal is to spread awareness about hunger and food insecurity in central Ohio, bring the community together, and raise money for Neighborhood Services Inc.
Did you know that 17.9% of Franklin County residents are food insecure, nearly 1 in 4 Franklin County children live in food-insecure households, and Ohio ranks #1 in food insecurity in the Midwest? These are just a few of the many reasons why Neighborhood Services is so important. NSI was started in 1965 through the workings of 12 different churches in the Columbus area and has been serving the University District and surrounding zip codes since its creation. NSI provides a variety of services to help support the community and reduce the effects of economic inequality and food insecurity in Columbus. Some of their initiatives include their food pantry, produce market, clothing room, and special holiday programs.
Every dollar raised for NSI provides FOUR meals, which means that by participating in The Hunger Run 5K you will help provide 120 meals. In 2019, Neighborhood Services served 654,352 meals. This FUNdraiser has the ability to feed a wide variety of well-deserving families and Columbus residents who are in need and we would love for you to join us on Sunday, March 22nd. The 5K will also be followed by an after-party at Seventh Son Brewing Co. so participants, family, and friends can come together and celebrate the race! Sign up today to come and walk or run, have some fun, and help race hunger out of Columbus!
Come to Neighborhood Services Inc. to pick up your t-shirt and race packet before the race in order to save some time the morning of and check out the pantry! We will be hosting Early Packet Pickup Friday, March 20th from 4 pm - 8 pm and Saturday, March 21st from 12 pm - 4 pm at NSI (1950 North 4th Street, Columbus, OH, 43201).
If you are an Ohio State student, the race will be providing transportation from campus to the race, and back to campus after!
