Thanksgiving is a day for Turkey Trots, lots of homecooked food, family, and football. And maybe a nap. And then comes Friday... leftovers galore. You'll be eating turkey and mashed potatoes in various forms for days!
As runners, we all have plenty of clothing and shoes that are "leftover" from prior seasons or no longer see the wear we thought they would.
And lastly, as race directors (okay, maybe that's just us!) we always have extra shirts and medals when a race is completed. We've accumulated a lot of "leftover" swag over the years and we thought we might do something fun before we make a donation to help those in need. So we came up with the Leftover Run and we're asking for your help.
Yes! The concept is pretty basic: we have leftover race numbers, race shirts, and medals from events over the past few years. You pay $15 to participate in the Leftover Run, and when you arrive you'll get your choice of a race shirt in your preferred size. When you finish, you'll get your choice of a medal. Some of these medals, you've seen before. Maybe a few that you haven't, too.
New in 2019! We now have TWO beneficiaries for our event.
First, as with the past three years, is Goodwill Columbus. We'll be donating some of the extra shirts after the Leftover Run to this great local organization. In addition to the donation of the extra race shirts, we're asking you to help make a great donation to Goodwill Columbus by bringing any donatable clothing to the event that we'll then include with the donation to help those in need.
Secondly, we are also supporting the Columbus Running Company Charity Fund. The Columbus Running Company Charity Fund is a 501c3 organization evolved from our mission to benefit both the running and local communities. The CRC Charity Fund focuses its efforts on youth running participation through scholarships to the Grasshoppers Running Club and providing discounted race timing and logistics support to a small number of approved 501c3 races that have both the athlete and charity in mind. Support the CRC Charity Fund via the event's DONATE page, you can donate during your event registration or separately using the button at the top of the page.
Thank you for your generosity!
There is ample parking at the Dublin Community Recreation Center (5600 Post Rd, map and directions below). The race will be starting/finishing nearest the NW parking lot.
There will be NO EARLY PACKET PICKUP FOR THIS RACE! All race number pickup and shirt choosing will be done before the event beginning at 800am. Shirt and medal choosing will continue after the race until our final participant gets their medal.
The Leftover Run will begin at 900a sharp!
Absolutely not! You're welcome to register and participate, no clothing or financial donation beyond the registration fee is required.
No way! While we think there are some nice shirts that we'll be including in the Leftover Run, we don't want to force anyone to take things they don't need or want. If you just want to treat this as an opportunity to run an event with the family after some early morning Black Friday shopping, we completely understand! The same goes for the medals as you finish. If you don't want any of them, we won't make you take one.
Not all of them, but we can tell you that there are leftover shirts and medals from the past few Columbus 10K events and a number of other events the CRC has produced over recent years.
We do still have a few event production costs associated with putting on the Leftover Run, so we need to be sure those are covered. Anything we have, umm... left over (sorry, we had to) after we pay our bills for the race will be included in the donation check to the Columbus Running Company Charity Fund.
There are no awards for the Leftover Run. It will be chip timed on a measured and accurate course, so you can confidently use any time you run as a PR if you're strong enough to get one the day after Thanksgiving.
This is pretty much a no-frills event. We'll have bottled water at the finish line. There will be no on-course water station. If you desire water during your 5K trek, please plan to bring your own personal hydration.
Headphones and running strollers are okay, but running with pets is prohibited due to our insurance restrictions.
