This program was "virtually" made for you! Start your summer off on the right foot by joining the Columbus Running Company’s Walk & Run 101 program. If you've ever dreamt of finishing that first 5K, we're here to help you every step of the way. If you used to run or walk and it's time to make a comeback, come share some miles with us. Either way, let's get moving!

This summer our Walk & Run 101 will be held virtually. We have added some great ways to keep you motivated even if we can't run side-by-side. This is a two-month program designed to get you started with a walk or run routine, with an eye towards finishing a 5K at the end of the season. We'll host an initial kick-off clinic via Zoom where our lead coach will lay out the training plan for you. There, we'll cover the basics of form, nutrition, hydration and more. After that, you'll receive weekly coaching emails, 4 team Zoom meetings, participate in our Strava group where we can encourage each other and cheer on your efforts. To help you individually, you will have access to two 15-minute one-on-one video or telephone calls with the head coach (she is always available any time via email.)

All registrants in Walk & Run 101 will receive:

  • Entrance into our Season Kickoff, a one-hour Zoom intro clinic to get you started
  • Two months of coaching emails & guidance
  • 8-week 5K training schedule
  • Entry into Blazin' 5k virtual run on August 1 (a $30+ value)
  • A CRC tech running shirt (a $26 value)
  • Support through two 15-minute one-on-one video calls with the coach and 4 team Zoom meetings
  • Strava training group connection

Training program details:

  • Who: Open to walkers & runners of beginner and intermediate experience levels
  • Focus: Prepping for a 5k 
  • When: June 1 - August 1
  • Want to Learn More?: Join us for a free information session at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, May 12 via Zoom; join by clicking this link. If this date doesn't work, join us on Tuesday, May 19 via Zoom; join by clicking this link. 
  • Starting Point: Join Coach Lisa and your teammates for a virtual Kickoff Clinic at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, May 26 via Zoom. You will receive a link to the Zoom meeting in your confirmation email when you register. During this clinic, Lisa will explain how the virtual training will work and walk you through tips on getting started. 
  • Training: Training will take place 3 times per week. We recommend scheduling your runs or walks in line with the training plan as best you can. 
  • Can I Really Do This?: Heck yeah! We're here to offer you the tools needed to finish that 5k. It all starts the evening of Tuesday, May 26 with our kickoff night (see above) so get yourself signed up and then come join us for the fun. Once you're signed up, keep an eye on your inbox, as you'll be receiving a welcome email that includes your training plan and details on everything you'll need to get started.
