Description
My sister, Sophia Koester was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome when she was nearly 7 years old. She is now 14 and has endured several surgeries and physical ailments that have prevented her from experiencing a normal childhood. This race supports those just like Sophia. Through this race and the Ehlers-Danlos National Foundation, many will hear about EDS, raising awareness and support for the children and adults who have been diagnosed with this syndrome.
This 5K will also support The Bladder Cancer Research Fund through The Ohio State University Foundation. My grandfather, an avid runner and competitive racer, Joe Cummins passed almost two years ago from a highly rare and aggressive type of bladder cancer. All proceeds will go towards these two foundations, raising awareness and hope for those who are unable to speak for themselves. Money will go towards research for these two diseases.
