New Lexington Middle School's after school program will be hosting their second annual 5K Glow Run/Walk. Project Y.O.U. (Youth Opportunities Unlimited) is an extension of the school day. At after school the kids are exposed to many different aspects of learning; social and emotional learning, academic assistance, intervention assistance, and many different clubs for the students to enjoy. Fishing, Problem Based Learning Projects of their choice, GPS, Drone and Robotic programming, many arts and craft clubs including Cricut Design, Scrapbooking and Quilting. The program also offers a lot of fitness activities to encourage the kids to get moving. For example, a running club, a community trash pick up group, outdoor adventures, an ecosystem club to learn about their environment and others.....
The Panther Prowl 5K Glow Run was incorporated into the programming as a means of sustainability long term. Even if only bits and pieces can continue if the grant is not renewed is a great thing to offer these kids. This is a great way to allow us to still encourage their moving while bringing in our community to engage in what we do.
