About the Cause

Reece Bova was born with a congenital heart defect called tetralogy of fallot with severe peripheral pulmonary artery stenosis in March of 2012.  Reece requires heart procedures by specialists at Boston Children's Hospital every 6-12 months for the forseeable future. Run for Reece was founded to help with the growing costs of surgeries, physical therapy and other medical expenses. All profits will go directly toward Reece's medical expenses. To learn more about Reece, visit http://www.runforreece.com/meet-reece.html.

To ensure you get a t-shirt, please register by September 25. Extra shirts will be available on race day, however, we cannot guarentee you a shirt or a shirt in your size. Thank you for your understanding.

You don't have to be a runner to join us for Run for Reece. The race will be timed, and strollers and children are welcome. We ask that children over the age of 5 register (it's all for the cause!).

About Reece

Hi, everyone! My name is Reece Bova and on March 2, 2012, I got to see my mommy and daddy for the very first time! I had some unexpected complications coming into this world and it was discovered just a few short hours after I was born that I had a congenital heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallot. I spent the first three weeks of my life at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta where I got to meet many wonderful doctors and nurses. When I was 9 days old, I finally got to lay in my mommy and daddy’s arms.

After a few heart catheterizations, I had my first heart surgery in September 2012. I breezed through with flying colors and was able to return home after just a few short days.

On December 14, 2012, I had open-heart surgery to fix the many defects of my heart. The surgery was considered a success, but I was having some trouble recovering. On December 15, I coded while mommy and daddy were along side my hospital bed. They had to step back and pray that the doctors would save me. And they did! After a few bumps in the road, I was able to come home just in time for Christmas. But it wasn't for long. I had to return to the hospital on Christmas night. It was discovered that I was having arrhythmias. After trying out some new medications, I was able to go home on New Year's Eve!

Then, on February 20, 2013, I entered the cath lab for the 5th time! It was then that mommy and daddy received some very devastating news from my doctors. It turns out that not only is my heart sick, but so are my lungs. The arteries in my lungs are way too small and my heart has to work extra hard to make sure they receive proper blood flow. The doctors told my mommy and daddy that my heart would fail before I turned 5 and that there wasn't anything anyone could do to help me. But my mommy and daddy are so strong and they absolutely were not going to settle for that answer. They looked for help at many children's hospitals all over the country, and just when we thought no one could help me, we received news from Boston Children's Hospital. They said that they have two doctors who specialize in just the type of procedure I need to help my heart and lungs.

We all travel to Boston together a couple of times a year so I can have these life-saving procedures. They are very scary and dangerous, but my new doctors are very special and extremely good at what they do.

To date, I have had two heart surgeries and 10 heart catheterizations. My future is unknown but with mommy and daddy and all our friends and family by my side, I won't ever give up and I will never stop fighting!

Even though the first couple years of my life have been a little different than everyone expected, I’m an extremely happy little boy. I love to jump on my trampoline, climb on EVERYTHING, and watch Mickey Mouse!

Thank you to everyone reading this and to those who will participate in Run for Reece. I know my mommy and daddy are extremely grateful and I thank you for helping them, even if it’s just a little bit, to pay for my surgeries.
