Description
Sepsis affects over 1,000,000 people a year and is the #3 killer in the US with 258,000 deaths/year. Sepsis kills more people in the US than breast cancer, prostate cancer and AIDs combined. Despite these alarming numbers, only 44% of the adult population has heard of sepsis and even less have a real understanding of sepsis and septic shock.
My wife, Sue, survived septic shock in August 2014, but the illness left her a bilateral below-the-elbow and bilateral below-the-knee amputee. Early identification and treatment of sepsis is critical to a patient's survival as the mortality rate of sepsis patients increases 8% every hour it is undiagnosed.
The Sue Stull Sepsis 5K is a fundraising event to raise funds and awareness for sepsis.
