Roseburg to Coos Bay Relay, a benefit for Camp Millennium

What: 67 Mile, 5 person run relay. This popular event was started in the early 70's by a group of South Coast Running Club (SCRC) members who enjoyed the beautiful scenery and the peaceful solitude of the Coos Bay Military Wagon Road that travels mostly through sparsely populated areas of the Coast Range. Later, the Roseburg Track Club managed the relay, which had its 19th running in 1991. The SCRC and the Camp Millennium Committee joined forces to revive the relay in a new format in 1997. There is also a 23 mile walk relay starting at Laverne Park on the scenic North Fork of the Coquille River. It follows the river to Fairview, where it joins the run relay course.

When and Where: 3rd Saturday in April. The run relay has a staggered start beginning at 6am at KPIC-TV in Roseburg(map). From I-5 City Center Exit 124, go west past Taco Time and left onto Umpqua Street to the TV station. The first walk relay team starts at 10am at Laverne Park. Both relays finish at Fred Meyer in Coos Bay (map). Registered teams will be notified of their start times.

Why: The event is a fundraiser for Camp Millennium, a summer camp that provides outdoor recreational activities for children living with cancer. Relay participants are encouraged to make a donation to these kids with their entry. Donations go directly to Camp Millennium.

Run Relay Information: Competitive teams will be made up of five (5) or fewer members. Non-competitive teams may have more than 5 members, however, they will not be eligible for awards. There are 15 relay legs, varying in length from 3 to 6 miles. Each competitive team must use their runners alternately in the same sequence. If a runner drops out, they may not run again later. Teams will have maps and course descriptions and are responsible for directing their runners. Any runner off course must resume where they left the course. Please use only one car, van or SUV per team, no RVs are allowed on the course. The team with the fastest overall time will receive plaques. Ribbons will be awarded 5 deep in all categories. All finishers will receive medals. The course has some tough legs because of steep hills. Most of the course is paved with some gravel stretches. It is recommended that you put your strongest runners on legs 1 and 5 and your next best on legs 2 and 4. Leg 3 is mostly downhill. Read descriptions here.
