Description

The City of Independence and the Monmouth-Independence Area Chamber of Commerce are pleased to present the second edition of the Oregon Hop Run! There will be a 10k, 5k, and a free kids 1/2 mile dash. The running and walking will start and end at Riverview Park, located in beautiful Downtown Independence.

ROUTE:
All events will start from the Independence Amphitheater- dubbed as the living room for the city and draws 1,000s of visitors throughout the year during popular annual events. The route will take you on a multi-use path, away from cars, surrounded by views of the Willamette River. For those going after the 10k, you'll run two 5k loops. After your first 5k loop, the celebrated hop bell will be rung on your behalf. Surrounded by spectators at the halfway mark, you’ll get a lively boost to tackle the last 5k of the race. For those gunning for a PR, this is your course. 

PACKET PICK-UP & REGISTRATION:

Pick-up your race bib #, goodie bag, and shirt (if you ordered one). You are able to pick up a packet for a friend or family member. If you have the itch to join us on race day, this will be a perfect opportunity to sign up!

8:00-9:40 AM Packet Pick-up & Last Minute Registration (5k $35, 10k $40)
10:00 AM 10k & 5k MASS START! KICK SOME TAIL!
11:15 AM FREE Kids 1/2 Mile Dash (approx after all runners/walkers off the course)
11:30 Overall & Age Group Awards
12:00 Special Items Raffle

After the event wraps up, redeem your beverage and enjoy our community! Beer, wine, or local fruit smoothie option. 6 locations to choose from. Map will be made available on race day!

Hop Education:
Throughout the event, Rogue Farms will be on hand to discuss the harvest practices on their 42-acre hopyard, as well as discuss other historical tidbits that pertain to our section of the Willamette Valley. Did you know Independence was known as the “Hop Capital of the World” from the late 1890’s to the 1940’s?

Where Your Money is Going:
Know your money will be going towards a good cause and will ensure ensure a fun time. Proceeds from the Oregon Hop Run will support the Ella Curran Food Bank. After your professionally chip timed 10k or 5k event by Ardor Adventures, you'll receive a ticket to enjoy a local beer (if of age) or a beverage of your choice at participating locations in Downtown Independence. We will also provide special discounts at eateries to stretch that dollar.

Special awards to top 3 overall female and male finishers in each race.

Shirts:
Shirts will be available for purchase during online registration for an additional $15. The size options are S-XL and are available in both men's and women's cuts. To get your shirt on race day, please register by midnight on Monday, September 7th.  There will also be an opportunity to order shirts during the race for $20. The shirts can be picked up at Independence City Hall approximately two weeks after the race.

Dogs and Strollers:
The events will be friendly pals and baby stroller friendly. For those with dogs, please use a short leash at all times (no retractable leashes). And please, please cleanup after your pal. Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated. We hope your pal will have a fun time! 

The aim of the Oregon Hop Run is to promote an active lifestyle through running and walking. While achieving this, community members and visitors will come together to celebrate the rich local hop heritage, and ultimately support the Ella Curran Food Bank.
