The Meltdown is a last-runner standing race located at Linfield University's wellness trail. We are a last-runner standing race, which means that runners will compete in laps of ~1.5 miles beginning at 30 minutes, with time being periodically "melted" off, beginning with 2 minutes per lap, then 1 minute, and 30 seconds until there is a winner. For more info, see below under "The Format". We also will be put on in conjunction with The Meltdown event in McMinnville and offer the opportunity for a bonus sandwich! Curious if you have what it takes? Sign up today!

What is "The Meltdown: Last not Fast"?

The Meltdown is a last-runner standing race located at Linfield University's wellness trail. Time will "melt down" as runners attempt to complete laps beginning with 30 minutes, and each subsequent lap will have varying amounts of time "melted" off. How long will you last before you "Melt down"? Come to Linfield's wellness trail located just off SE Lever St and Wildcat Circle on February 26th to find out!

Are there any Discounts? Can Runners form teams?

Runners are encouraged to form groups of 4+ individuals to create a team! Once teams of 4 or more are formed, each runner will be issued a $10 refund of their Race Entry! To register a team, go through the normal registration process until asked if you would like to join a team. From there, proceed and either create a team or join an existing one. A great way to save on entry fees!

The Cause and our Partner

Our race is in conjunction with a fundraising event put on by the Yamhill Community Action Partnership (YCAP, the Yamhill county agency that provides assistance for housing stabilization, energy services, the regional food bank, and youth services). The Melt down is a county-wide event held every February, where local restaurants create their own take on the classic grilled cheese sandwich and where customers get stamps for each sandwich purchased. For every sandwich purchased, $2 goes to support YCAP. That means $2 per race entry will be donated directly to YCAP. Within the Melt Down, there is an opportunity for bonus stamps! (included in the price of each entry). This means a grilled cheese sandwich is included with the race entry! We also will be accepting canned food on race day to be donated to YCAP, so bring canned food as well!

The Format

Time will "melt down" as runners complete laps. To start, the first lap will be 30 minutes long. The second lap will be 28 minutes, the third 26 minutes, and so on, all the way down to 20 minutes. From the 20-minute mark, laps will wind down by one minute until reaching 12 minutes. From there, increments will decrease by 30 seconds per lap until there is one runner standing. If running miles at a 10-minute mile or faster pace, runners should expect to complete at least 15 miles in under four hours, or more! If the final two or more runners complete the same last lap and then are unable to complete the next one, the winner will be the one who finished the last completed lap the fastest.

The Course

The course is a ~1.5 mile dirt/bark loop course located at Linfield University's wellness trail. The start/finish line will be located just off SE Lever Street on Wildcat Circle (on Google Maps, it is the parking lot located on the SE side of the Linfield College Nicholson Library). There is plenty of space for runners to set up their own aid stations or chairs, and access to vehicles is close by as well.

More About Food

As mentioned above, we will be serving a grilled cheese sandwiches per entry. We also will have a basic aid station for runners, featuring items such as water, snacks, and other basic items. Runners also are free to set up their own aid station areas in grassy areas around the course or in the parking lot directly next to the start/finish line.

What if I don't run or walk?

Those that don't run or walk are encouraged to select the $20 option or "The Meltdown (Sandwiches only) option". This will allow you to get entry into the event and access to the bonus sandwich, with the stamps as well!
