Description
Welcome to the second most ridiculous idea I’ve had since the stay at home orders went into place.
This event is a distance challenge that you can complete in your own home or neighborhood. The goal - be the last (wo)man standing. If you are, you will win the Grand Prize: a roll of toilet paper and a homemade face mask. The real prize? Knowing that you are helping your community put food on the table. Your registration and all donations collected, minus the fees, will be donated to the Oregon Food Bank and Feeding America equally.
So let’s all come together, but apart, to test our endurance and our tolerance for the ridiculous. Join us for one lap or 50 - all are welcome!
What is it?
Every hour, at the top of the hour, you run 3.19 miles or walk 1.55 miles, in however much time that takes you. Post a pic of your watch, phone, or treadmill readout. For the rest of the hour you can do whatever you want. Eat, rest, change, write a novel, or talk to people on the livestream. And at the top of the next hour, you go again. And again. And again. Until there is only one. It’s that simple!
When is it?
The first bell will ring at 7:00am Pacific Time Saturday April 18th, and the race will finish when there is only one runner left on the livestream. Or when I fall asleep and can’t monitor the race anymore. Whichever comes first.
How does it work?
There are not a lot of rules here - we’re having fun and raising money. But we do ask that every participant follows the current regulations in your region. Stay safe and keep others safe is rule number one. After that, just do your best join the fun in this way:
- Connect in to Zoom call using a computer webcam, or smartphone with the Zoom app – this will allow you to interact with other racers and the live feed while running. We’ll send you a link the day before the event.
- At the bell you will start your treadmill, or take off from your porch and run 3.19 miles or walk 1.55 miles.
- When you finish, point your webcam or phone cam at your watch, phone, or treadmill readout to record your distance.
- You must be ready to take off for your next leg when the bell rings to start the next loop at the top of the next hour.
Race times
- Friday April 17 - 5:30 pm Pacific: Pre-race social on Zoom. Bring your pasta and your best camera filters.
- Saturday April 18 - 6:45 am Pacific: Race review and pep talk.
- Saturday April 18 - 7:00 am Pacific: Opening bell.
and finally... Safety first.
No really, be safe. This is the very worst time you could pick to have to take a trip to the emergency room. You don’t want to be there and you definitely do not want to add stress to an already overburdened system. This is not an officially timed race. There is nothing official about this at all. So do not push yourself to injury. Stop when you feel like you should.
