Princess Steps - GFR Women's Clinic
Princess Steps - The Women’s Beginning Walking and Running Clinic at Gallagher Fitness Resources
- 12-week clinic
- Held twice a year
- Beginning in March & August
Options to meet individual fitness levels:
- Three walk-only groups
- Two walk-to-run transition groups
- One run group
Weekly topics relevant to walking and running are reviewed and homework is provided.
Since 1998, participants and leaders have met weekly during each clinic for the talks and group walk/run sessions. Due to the pandemic, we adapted to an in-person/virtual blend.
- Participants receive weekly topic content and homework via email.
- An in-person presentation on the topic of the week occurs weekly at the store, 135 Commercial St NE, downtown Salem.
- Talks are also live on a private Princess Steps Facebook group for those wishing to see the talk virtually.
The Facebook group (optional to join) also helps keep participants connected, motivated and inspired.
Traditionally, all are encouraged to register for and participate in a focus event near the end of the clinic in celebration of their new fitness level, a "Graduation" of sorts. Family, friends and Women's Clinic alumni are encouraged as well. Anyone can register and share in celebration of their achievement.
This VIRTUAL Princess Steps 5k 10k event has been created to continue the tradition of a Focus Event.
Princess Steps - Good Form
Princess Steps is synonymous with good form. We have used "princess steps" in our 12-week clinics since 1998 to describe and refer to good form while running and walking. Many people over-stride when walking and running, especially beginners. They think that's what they're supposed to do and have never been taught otherwise. Over-striding contributes to various aches, pains and conditions that slow progress. Shin splints, a very common condition is one of the main things that over-striding contributes to.
So remember to practice Princess Steps, improve your walking and running efficiency, and strive for injury-free miles toward your goals.
