Description
Let's race to save the world! Between increased greenhouse gasses (through air pollution from factories, food waste, and animal waste, among others) and deforestation, global temperatures have skyrocketed over the last century. Climate change not only makes Earth's overall climate hotter, it also is disrupting wildlife and aquatic life, increasing extreme weather, and creating more food scarcity, among dozens of other issues. All proceeds for The 5k to Outrun Climate Change will be donated to PennEnvironment, who is working to reverse climate change. PennEnvironment is a state-wide, people powered environmental advocacy non-profit, who's mission is to make sure communities have access to clean air to breathe, clean water to drink, and a livable climate powered by 100% renewable energy.
Day-of registration will start at 7:30, and runners should plan to arrive at 7:30 as well, as the race will start at 8 AM sharp. Awards will be at 9 AM and will finish by 9:30. Race shirts can be purchased before or after the race, if not already purchased during registration. The course features two loops around various soccer fields as well as through the woods and is friendly to walkers as well as runners. Refreshments will be provided after the race. Parking for the event is available at the gravel lot near the start/finish line or at Maple Glen Elementary School across the street. Please note that no pets are allowed on the property.
My name is Micheala Patalano and I am a senior at Upper Dublin High School. For my culminating project I am organizing The 5k to Outrun Climate Change to raise awareness about climate change and its impact on the globe. By coming together as a community and engaging in a fun run, we can educate more people about this environmental problem and how to work to reverse it. Thank you for your participation and support in this project!
