Ready, Set, Gold VIRTUAL 5K Walk, 8K Run, and Kids' Fun Run

Sat September 26 - Fri October 2 Directions
Important News About Ready, Set, Gold 5K Walk/8K Run/Kids' Fun Run

At this time, after careful consideration of all guidelines and recommendations of government and health officials, we have made the difficult decision to turn the Ready, Set, Gold 5K Walk/8K Run/Kids' Fun Run into a VIRTUAL EVENT on September 26, 2020. While we wish we could continue on with an in-person event, we firmly believe that this is what is best for our community at this time and most in accordance with our PCFLV mission and ethics.

PCFLV is doing all it can to continue to provide support to our families during these difficult and uncertain days. Since mid-March, we have provided to our families over $10,000 in grocery store gift cards, lots of cleaning supplies/masks/hand sanitizer, and $5,000 in prepared meals. We will continue to fund major bill payments through our cooperative effort with Lehigh Valley Reilly Children's Hospital. We are also hosting virtual support groups for our parents and fun activities for our kids through Zoom.  Four college scholarships have been awarded to our graduating senior cancer kiddos. And we hosted a super-fun, one-week Virtual Camp Smile in June!

With that said, your support is still critical to helping these families, and it is our sincere hope that you will participate VIRTUALLY in this amazing event on September 26th. Please tune in to our LIVE kickoff at 9am that day. More details will follow!

Some important notes:

* If you are already registered (and for anyone who registers by August 30th), you will still receive a t-shirt and goodie bag! Pickup is Tuesday, September 22nd from 9am-7pm at the PCFLV office (2132 S.12th St. Allentown, PA) Shipping is available for an additional $10 to anyone living more than 50 miles from PCFLV!

* Runners, you will have a week, starting on September 26th and ending on October 3rd to submit your time to be considered for an award.

* Walkers you may walk anytime, of course, but it will be fun for us all to walk at the same time after kickoff!

* Kids signed up for the fun run, we hope to have some fun and active surprises for you during the virtual kickoff on September 26th! We also encourage you to come up with your own creative ways to support PCFLV!

* If you prefer not to not be part of the virtual event, you may request a refund. However, we encourage you to consider your registration fee a donation to the foundation IF you can.

* REGISTRATION is still open! And FUNDRAISING is still encouraged! Of course, DONATIONS are still welcome!

* Awards for largest team, highest fundraising team, and highest fundraising individual will still be awarded!

More than ever, we appreciate your support. We wish you and your family all the best during this time. Stay safe and healthy! And we will see you VIRTUALLY on September 26th!

Sincerely,

Michelle Zenie - Executive Director, Cancer Mom, and Race Director

Here Are Your Options:

This is for anyone currently registered (walkers, runners, kid fun runners!) and who wishes to participate virtually!

Runners...virtual races happen all the time, and allow you to join the fun without the crowds. You simply run the distance on your own, and report your results - we’ll send you instructions.

You understand that events are expensive, even when cancelled, and you want us to keep your registration fees to help support our mission. We deeply appreciate your generosity and look forward to seeing you at an event soon.

We understand. We hope you can join us next time.

Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley Mission Statement

We embrace the pediatric cancer journey alongside children and their families, moving forward as a community with love, hope, and smiles.  We will ...
                Support at diagnosis
                Encourage during treatment
                Empower in survivorship
                Comfort throughout bereavement

The Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley is a local 501c(3) non-profit foundation dedicated to helping children and families affected by pediatric cancer by providing free and unique programming and support during treatment, survivorship, and bereavement. We are focused on creating a loving and supportive cancer community for families whose lives have been forever changed by hearing the words, "Your child has cancer." We host events and activities to create free-of-charge opportunities for families to have fun and to find nurturing support within the pediatric cancer community. We have regular, ongoing programming like our Kids Konnect program and monthly Moms’ /Dads'/Parents' Nights Out, as well as much-loved annual events like Camp Smile. PCFLV makes monthly visits to the inpatient pediatric floor and the outpatient pediatric oncology clinic at Lehigh Valley Reilly Children's Hospital through our Chemo Circus and Caregiver Coffee programs, armed with an array of arts and crafts, gifts, entertainment, and food to distract children during their treatment and to create happiness and smiles. We have a bill-paying fund for families treated at LVRCH. And we are also always available to make specially-requested and personalized visits to children during inpatient stays, as well as home visits. We provide individual and specialized assistance based on the needs of our families as well, often in the form of grocery and gas gift cards to help defray the often-unrecognized costs of dealing with a pediatric cancer diagnosis. We provide housecleaning services for newly diagnosed families, a college scholarship fund for high school graduates, and much more! Our fundraising events support this mission.
