Freedom 5k

Thanks to all who supported this year's AHA Freedom 5K ! We had a record 419 registered for the Run, Walk or Virtual event. If you are doing the Virtual 5K you can now upload your results on the Runsignup platform. If you missed your award, you can pick up at the Gingerbreadman running store in Greensburg, now thru 7/31. If you pre-registered but did not get to the race you can pick up your shirt also at the Gingerbreadman running store in Greensburg, now thru 7/31. If you signed up late & had the "no-shirt" discount and didn't get a vintage shirt from a prior year, you can email us at freedom5k@comcast.net to see what sizes are left before you drive up to the store. After 7/31 supplies will go back in storage but you can check on availability, email us at freedom5k@comcast.net

We are over 380 registered as of 7/3 10PM, a new record !! thanks for all your support & our sponsors. Thus we have run out of this year's shirts but we will have an ample supply of vintage shirts to choose from if you would like. Arrive early to get your bib &  get ready to run or walk. Pray that the weather isn't severe, looks like 40-50% chance of rain. In return for the enormous support from the community, there will be no late fee tomorrow !! All who sign up will be 20$ race day, either cash/check for 20$ or online the fee will be 22$ & click no shirt for a 2$ discount. Anyone who chose "no shirt" can have a vintage shirt

Early registration opened 2/17/24, early fee of $17.76 till 5/31/24 then $20; race day is 25$ except age 65+ or 19 & under remains 20$. You can register race day but please register on the website to expedite signups day of the race. We will be using t-shirt inventory on the website platform, you can choose "no shirt" for a 2$ discount. If we run out of shirts race day your only choice will be "no shirt" but  you can  get a shirt from a prior year

Kids Sparkler for ages 10 & under. Register your young sprinter after/during the 5K, 8$ per kid by the soccer field lawn. Several heats will be held as kids are available. 

Early packet pick up & in person registration  7/3 from Noon-6pm at Gingerbreadman Running store (5142 Rt 30, Suite 165; Greensburg, PA)

Door prizes will be inserted into the goody bags so look inside when you get home ! Vintage t-shirts will be available for sale after the race, 5$ each, 3 for 10$ !!

***Wave starts will be used again. ** Plan for race day is National anthem followed by race instructions at 08:25; 4 wave starts:  Wave #1- 08:30, runners sub 24 min pace; Wave #2- 0830 + 60sec, runners 24-28 min pace; Wave #3 0830 + 120 sec, runners >28 min pace; Wave #4 0830 + 180 sec, walkers. If you are going to "run a little" please sign up as a runner or let us know when you finish to re-classify you.

The course is out and back. PLEASE stay to right half of the trail especially in the tunnel and around its curve to avoid any collisions with potential bikers. Water station is located  before the 1 mile mark going out & lafter the 2 mile mark on the way back, please try to get your cups tossed into the barrels downstream. NO running on train tracks please & stay on the main part of the overpass bridges. We cross one not-so-busy intersection & the city will provide traffic horses but please glance to be sure no vehicles are trying to go around the barriers.

Teams need to be registered by  7/3 !!

Awards: Top 3 male & female runners by gun time so make sure you are in the 1st wave if you're speedy!  Other awards are chip timed: Top male & female masters runner (age 40+) by chip time &  Top 3 walkers male/female by chip time; Runners/Walkers age group awards are all chip time as there are waves but all walkers should be in the final wave. Age groups: Runners top 3: 15/under, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70+; Walkers top 2: 19/under, 20-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+

Timing by Gingerbreadman Running. Race day registration at Lynch Field 7:15-8:15AM. Should the race be canceled due to COVID-19, refunds will be given. If race date is moved to a later time, refund is optional if you cannot attend. 

Can't make it?? Run the Freedom Virtual 5K this year, complete your race anytime from 7/1-7/31, upload your time to runsignup.com & shirt can be picked up at Gingerbreadman running store in Greensburg starting approximately 7/7, check back for further details.
