Freedom 5k

Welcome, time to start planning for the 24rd Freedom 5K on July 4th !! We had a record 419 registered in 2024 for the Run, Walk or Virtual event and  hope 2025 will equal or surpass last year's success. Early registration is now open. Early fee is $17.76 till May 31st, then $20 till race day when it is $25, except 19/under & 65/over remains $20. You can register race day but please register on the website to expedite signups day of the race. We will be using t-shirt inventory on the website platform, you can choose "no shirt" for a 2$ discount. If we run out of shirts race day your only choice will be "no shirt" but  you can  get a shirt from a prior year

Kids Sparkler for ages 10 & under. Register your young sprinter after/during the 5K, 10$ per kid by the soccer field lawn. Several heats will be held as kids are available. 

Early packet pick up & in person registration  7/3 from Noon-5pm at Gingerbreadman Running store (5142 Rt 30, Suite 165; Greensburg, PA). Door prizes will be inserted into the goody bags so look inside when you get home ! Vintage t-shirts will be available for sale after the race, 5$ each, 3 for 10$ !!

***Wave starts will be used again. ** Plan for race day is National anthem followed by race instructions at 08:25; 4 wave starts:  Wave #1- 08:30, runners sub 24 min pace; Wave #2- 0830 + 60sec, runners 24-28 min pace; Wave #3 0830 + 120 sec, runners >28 min pace; Wave #4 0830 + 180 sec, walkers. If you are going to "run a little" please sign up as a runner or let us know when you finish to re-classify you.

The course is out and back. PLEASE stay to right half of the trail especially in the tunnel and around its curve to avoid any collisions with potential bikers. Water station is located before the 1 mile mark going out & after the 2 mile mark on the way back, please try to get your cups tossed into the barrels downstream. NO running on train tracks please & stay on the main part of the overpass bridges. We cross one not-so-busy intersection & the city will provide traffic horses but please glance to be sure no vehicles are trying to go around the barriers.

Teams need to be registered by  7/3 !!

Awards: Top 3 male & female runners by gun time so make sure you are in the 1st wave if you're speedy!  Other awards are chip timed: Top male & female masters runner (age 40+) by chip time &  Top 3 walkers male/female by chip time; Runners/Walkers age group awards are all chip time as there are waves but all walkers should be in the final wave. Age groups: Runners top 3: 15/under, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70+; Walkers top 3: 20-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+; (all 19/under walkers will receive a small gift to be determined later)

5K Run & Walk, starts & finishes at Lynch Field, (526 New Alexandria Rd, Greensburg, PA). Benefits the American Heart Association. Team categories available. Overall & age group prizes. Timing by Gingerbreadman Running. Race day registration at Lynch Field 7:15-8:15AM. Should the race be canceled due to COVID-19 or other crisis , refunds will be given. If race date is moved to a later day, refund is optional if you cannot attend. 

Can't make it?? Run the Freedom Virtual 5K this year, complete your race anytime from 7/1-7/31, upload your time to runsignup.com & shirt can be picked up at Gingerbreadman running store in Greensburg starting approximately 1 week after race day, check back for further details.
