After careful consideration, the Trooper Iwaniec Memorial Foundation’s TakeOff Race Organizing Committee is officially announcing that the 2021 TakeOff Race will be a VIRTUAL EVENT due to the health concerns surrounding COVID-19. In this uncertain environment, the mission will go on.
The Virtual Event allows us to avoid the chance of spreading the virus while still enjoying the opportunity to participate in a great event. On Saturday, April 17, we encourage you to run or walk your event individually, wherever you are. Different streets. Same day. Same mission. This is a chance to show our strength in a challenging time and a chance to get out of the house to run with our virtual community across Pennsylvania.
Participants will complete their event on their own time on April 17. Or, you can join us for the multi-day Trooper Iwaniec 42 Mile Challenge or our Act of Kindness Challenge. If you would like to submit your race times, you can submit them on this race website. We will offer pick up locations the week of the race for participants to pick up their race shirts and an option to download a customized race bib. We will also offer a shipping option. We would love to see you running on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook using #trooperiwaniec and showing your passion for removing impaired drivers from our roads and for the law enforcement officers we all support. You can also upload photos on this site when you submit your results.
TakeOff is a race to honor DUI victims, raise awareness about the seriousness of impaired driving, and encourage the community to have a positive influence in the reduction of impaired driving. All profits will go to the purchase of breathalyzers (PBTs) for the Pennsylvania State Police and other law enforcement agencies throughout the Commonwealth. Since 2009, the foundation has purchased 1,972 PBTs. The need for PBTs is evident and real. As of January 1, 2021, we have 110 law enforcement officers waiting for units. Just to meet the financial demands of purchasing the 110 breathalyzers, we will need 500 Virtual participants and the continued support of our generous sponsors. We greatly appreciate you sharing our race information with others and encouraging them to register for our Virtual Event.
Help us make our communities safer by providing the necessary tools to law enforcement to remove impaired drivers from our roads. Together we can make a difference; we can save lives. Thank you for support. We will continue to pray for your health and safety.
Many Blessings,
Debra Iwaniec, Race Director
