What is CV Mini-THON?

The Cumberland Valley High School Dance Mini-THON is a twelve-hour event held in the Dome at Cumberland Valley High School. The event raises money for Four Diamonds, which aims to conquer childhood cancer. Four Diamonds aids patients at the Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital by offsetting the cost of treatment that insurance does not cover. It also pays for expenses that may disrupt the welfare of the child (such as car repairs, rent, or household utilities), supports the medical team that cares for the children, and funds pediatric cancer research. Since 1972, Four Diamonds has helped more than 3,000 families. Thanks to Mini-THON events, no family has ever been turned away!

CV Mini-THON is a student run organization that works all year to raise money until the middle of March for the night of Mini-THON. Students organize and run fundraisers such as the FTKolor Run, tailgate, Fall Fest, Man Pageant, Mile of Coins, and THON Factor. There are 11 committees with over 300 students involved. Members throughout the year volunteer at events, can for money, and raise money through THONveloping and Donor Drive. For the past four years Green Ridge Elementary has hosted their own Mini-Mini-THON donating over $28,000 towards Four Diamonds.

Dancers pay to attend this overnight event, where they are entertained by nonstop activities. There are several bands and a DJ to provide musical entertainment. There are also numerous games and activities, such as a dodgeball tournament and basketball. Highlights of CV Mini-THON include the Super Mario Bros. Tournament, Pep Rally, Techno Rave, and Family Hour, where families of children helped by Four Diamonds speak to the dancers. Throughout the 12 hours dancers are fed dinner, breakfast and snacks.

CV Mini-THON is one of many "Mini-THONs" in the central Pennsylvania area. These smaller Dance MaraTHONs, held by elementary, middle, and high schools, are all modeled after Penn State's IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, the largest student-run philanthropy in the world. Penn State's dance marathon is 46 hours long, and is held at the Bryce Jordan Center in State College, Pennsylvania. Since the year 1973 Penn State has raised more than 147 million dollars.

Cumberland Valley is in the process of planning its eleventh Dance MaraTHON, and is proud to be part of such a wonderful organization. Last year, CV mini-THON raised $290,170.18 its year long fundraising efforts, and wants to raise even more this year! Cumberland Valley has raised $1,893,830.89 over the past twelve years. Thank you to everyone who's made these past years possible raising money for Four Diamonds.
