Description

We are trying to purchase an existing youth camp that was built by the Girl Scouts in 1947. Parts of the camp were damaged during a violent wind storm in February of 2017 forcing the main part of the camp to close indefinitely. On November 2, 2017, the current owner is Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania. Their Board of Directors voted to include 190 acres of Camp Furnace Hills as one of the properties it will sell. They plan to sell all but one of the camps that they own. This will force many of the girls to travel hours to a safe place to camp or to use state parks for camping. As a result of this, a group of Girl Scout volunteers that has ran summer camps at this site met and formed a registered 501 (c) (3) non-profit named Furnace Hills Camping Association. Our goal is to buy the property to continue allowing the girls a safe and secure place for camps. Along with Girl Scouts, we plan to allow other youth organizations use of the grounds which includes cabins, a dining hall/meeting place, swimming pool, hiking trails and so much more.

The property, located in Lancaster, PA, will be able to serve multiple counties, youth groups, and community events. We need your support. The Girl Scouts has informed us that the property will be listed for sale in the spring of 2019. This gives us very little time to try and save such a historic site that the girls truly love and enjoy. Please help the children in the area with the opportunity to continue to have a safe place to explore the great outdoors.

Our mission is to promote leadership and youth development through safe, affordable camp experiences that will allow both youth and adults to develop confidence, courage, and an appreciation for the outdoors.

Every dollar raised will be used to buy and re-open such a great camp. Please visit our website http://www.furnacehills.org for more photos of the camp and to learn more about the rich history.

We appreciate you taking the time to read this and thank you for your endless support!
