Packet Pick Up on 10/11 and 10/12 from 10am-2pm at the Wells Fargo Center!

Registration closes Saturday, 10/12 at 2pm!
Hey party people, here’s the deal.
I’m putting together this little shindig that might seem like it’s for fitness, but it’s actually for me and my good friends at Flyers Charities. It’s called the Gritty 5K. The first one of its kind. The anti-runners 5K, but all are welcome. How long is it, you ask? Extensive scientific analysis indicates the course is the length of approximately 33,792 hot dogs. But like, if you want to take a short cut and run the first 50 hot dogs then take a breather, I’m cool with that. If you wanna do it for the gram and not really run, also acceptable. Don your finest gritty regalia, and prepare to take the ath out of athleisure.
There may not be foil blankets at the finish line (we save them for the hot dogs), but we can guarantee a course filled with all of my favorite things and prizes not for the fastest runners (try-hards), but for the best-dressed participants. I even went the extra mile (figuratively, of course) and set up a post-run festival to keep the party going all day long until they have to shut us down. If I haven’t convinced you yet this probably isn’t the event for you. Check out the nitty gritty details and be one of the first to sign up for the Gritty 5K on Oct. 13th. See you and your paws at the starting line and remember, if the fur ain’t flyin’ you ain’t tryin.'

The Nitty Gritty

The people have been asking questions:

  • Yes, there will be nacho cheese.
  • Yes, my guards will be on watch.
  • Put your baby Gritties under 5 in a stroller. And those things need to be in the back of the pack.
  • Don’t step to my starting line in those individual toe running shoes, all Crocs welcome.

Wooder Stops & More

There will be wooder stops on the course if you’re into that sort of thing. Keep your eyes peeled for surprises too.

Pick Up Your Packet

Packet Pick Up will be at the Farg (3601 S. Broad Street) on Friday, October 11th from 10am-2pm, and Saturday, October 12th from 10am-2pm in the Broad Street Atrium.  Parking is FREE and all we are offering 20% off of your purchase at the Fan Zone team store during Packet Pick Up times.

If you are not able to attend either day, please contact Flyers Charities at

Packet Pick Up will not be available the morning of the race. It’s too early for these paws to be passing out bibs to you procrastinators. I’m teaching you a life lesson. One of the many Grittyisms you will learn along the way.

The Course

This isn’t your chance to prove a point and take the road less travelled, you are not Robert Frost. Here’s the gameplan. We begin at the Dojo, then will gingerly proceed to some pretty places along Broad Street, namely the best spot to just take in the glorious view of I-95.  For the maritime enthusiasts, we're passing by some big ships in the Navy Yard. Then, we'll be comin' in hot to that finish line at Xfinity Live! This isn’t about winning, it’s about honoring me. Just remember that while you’re wheezing across the finish line.

Fan Fest

Block Party.  Gritty Worshipers convention. Whatever you want to call it.  But also, lots of orange stuff, games, sponsors and vendors and friends, Gritty snacks, tunes spun by DeeJay Shelly, and lots of ways to get your hockey on.

My friends: Flyers Charities

A little ditty about Flyers Charities...

I made it to my first Flyers Wives Carnival last year and had me a good ol’ time.  I heard that Carnival's been around for over 40 years, and they gave more than $29 million to charity! I like them and what they do for the community, so we answered the call and whipped together a little shindig we’ve dubbed the Gritty 5K.

From my friends: The funds raised by Flyers Charities (and the Gritty 5K) help support non-profit organizations that provide educational and recreational resources to underserved youth, engage in important medical and healthcare research, and promote countless community development initiatives throughout the Greater Philadelphia region. Past grantees include the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation, Michael's Way, Center for Autism, USO, Simon's Heart, the Police Athletic League, Special Olympics Philadelphia, Philabundance, Salvation Army, the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House and many more.
