Propel Partners in Wellness
Propel Partners in Wellness (PPIW) helps scholars, families, and staff to have a healthy and productive academic year by providing dedicated wellness support at school. PPIW provides enhanced opportunities to create avenues for growth and success through school-based services and Propel's Community Wellness Center.
To meet the needs of all stakeholders, PPIW partners with UPMC Western Behavioral Health at Mon Yough to provide certified staff that is embedded into each Propel school, providing both virtual and in-person mental health support. This partnership aims to increase positive interactions and experiences that lead to improved overall health and wellness of students, families, and staff by providing direct services, strategies, and tools to help reduce barriers to learning.
A necessary part of this program involves our Propel Community Wellness Centers, which provide needed outreach and programming internally to our scholars, families, staff, and community. Serving as "The Hub" of its neighborhood, this physical location unites families, educators, and community partners to provide all scholars with top-quality academics, enrichment, health, and social services to succeed academically and in all other aspects of life.
We are Propel Schools
The Propel Schools Foundation supports the mission of Propel Schools: to catalyze the transformation of public education so that all children have access to high-performing public schools.
Among the 4,000 scholars being served across our 13 Allegheny County locations, 80% of students qualify for the federal free/reduced-cost lunch program, 80% are a minority and 17% have special needs. Propel has become one of the largest, fastest-expanding sets of charter schools in the state, with the highest levels of student achievement among PA public school districts serving high poverty, resource-poor areas throughout the Pittsburgh region.
How PPIW has benefitted:
Thanks to the generous support provided for last year’s Trick or Trot, Propel Schools was able to hire a consulting partner, The Hill Group, to conduct a needs assessment for the Braddock Hills Campus and the surrounding community. As part of the Community Schools strategy, a Needs Assessment is instrumental in identifying the specific needs and challenges faced by the school and its surrounding community. It helps in making informed decisions about the school's programming, operations, and resource allocation, thus ensuring that the offerings and partnerships are aligned with the diverse needs of its students and families, ultimately leading to a more supportive and successful learning environment. We are happy to share the final report upon request, once it is available.
