A Virtual Event to Benefit
Description
Walk or run for a cause, and join the City of Steel Virtual 5K/10K!
Local bike and pedestrian advocacy group BikePGH invites you to support safer streets for all by walking, running, rolling and strolling this July. Raise money for a great cause, earn merch and swag items, and enjoy the streets of our great city!
When: Anytime! Event runs all month from July 1 - 31st
Where: Anywhere! Walk or run in your neighborhood, on trails, or on a treadmill
Why: To support the work of BikePGH and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
In addition to supporting BikePGH's work, your registration will provide 25 meals for families in need through our friends at the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. As the impact of the coronavirus weighs on our city, it's crucial that Pittsburghers have access to healthy food and reliable transportation that is safe and free.
During these uncertain times, it's even more important that we take care of our fellow Pittsburghers. While the need in our communities may seem overwhelming, you can make a difference today.
#CityofSteel Walk/Run Swag!
Headband? Mask? Pup apparel? Sport your #CityofSteel pride whether you're walking, biking, or running.
All participants who register during the race period (July 1 - 31) will receive a custom BikePGH bandana - we hope you agree it's way cooler than a participation medal.
Invite Friends, Get Rewarded
Get 5 friends to register using your unique referral link, and we'll automatically refund your registration as a thank you for helping us spread the word about the City of Steel Virtual Walk/Run!
Want to earn even more BikePGH swag? If you get 10 people to register, a) you're a superhero and b) we'll send your choice of a *vintage* BikePGH swag pack - including socks and a musette bag - as a thank you! Limited quantities, available until they're not.
All swag items and rewards will be sent via USPS mail starting on July 31. Swag packs are also available for purchase in the Store.
Support Safer Streets and Food Access
More about the cause
BikePGH is a non-profit organization who works on behalf of the Pittsburgh community to make the city safe and accessible for everyone to bike and walk through advocacy, education, and community-building. We advocate for policy change and infrastructure improvements to make our streets more bikeable and walkable, we teach youth and adults how to bike safely in the city, and we work to build a supportive community that lifts up biking and walking as fundamental modes of transportation.
A quarter of Pittsburgh households don’t have access to a vehicle. Now more than ever, we believe that all our neighbors should be able to access their basic needs without needing to own a motor vehicle. Many Pittsburghers depend on biking, walking, and public transit for everyday food access, crucial transportation, recreation and more. By registering for the City of Steel Virtual Walk/Run: 5K/10K you can help BikePGH transform our communities into walkable and bikeable places where people can thrive.
