Description

Ruck For A Cure is an annual fundraising effort hosted by the THON organization, Kaizen. Every year, Penn State Cadets and Midshipmen, as well as friends, family and other students/supporters come together to partake in a 24 hour "rucking marathon" in order to raise support, awareness, and funds for THON. For those who are unfamiliar with THON, it is an entirely student-run philanthropy committed to enhancing the lives of both children and family members impacted by childhood cancer in which the goal is to provide emotional and financial support all in pursuit of a cure. The fundraising strategy of this event is on a pledge-per-mile basis, in which individual participants will collect sponsors to support them for every mile contributed to the Kaizen total distance. The success of this fundraising event can be seen in the number’s; last year we collectively rucked about 1,500 miles and raised more than 3,000 dollars in funds, all of which contributed to the THON 2019-2020 total.  Kaizen is a proud organization, fortunate to be supported by the Nittany Lion Battalion, alumni servicemen and women, and all friends and family that contribute to the success of Kaizen’s fundraising efforts.

This year, due to COVID-19, the event will take place virtually. Therefore, anybody from anywhere is free and encouraged to participate. Participants are asked to keep track of the amount of miles in total that they complete throughout the 24 hours in order to track the mileage completed FTK. The event will take place on Saturday the 14th of November and will begin at 10am, lasting until 10am of Sunday the 15th. Please join us in one of our favorite events of the year and get those steps in FTK.

*Note: A ruck usually utilizes a 35 lb. ruck sack, but you may tailor this weight as you prefer and a back pack can also be used.*
