Race Along the Abandoned Pennsylvania Turnpike
Step back in time and experience the striking scenery of a road frozen in history. This stretch of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, bypassed in 1968, has remained untouched by traffic for nearly 50 years. At the original old turnpike Half Marathon, you’ll journey through five miles of underground tunnels and miles of breathtaking fall foliage. Prefer a shorter adventure? The One Tunnel 4 Miler offers 2.4 miles in the tunnels paired with stunning autumn views above ground.

Abandoned Pennsylvania Turnpike Tunnels
A headlamp or flashlight is required for the End of the Road Half Marathon and One Tunnel Four Miler. There are no lights in the tunnels! Check out these recommendations.

Race Location
The Half Marathon and 4 Miler race start and finish line are located on the defunct turnpike in Waterfall, Pennsylvania. The best street address to use is 3005 Pump Station Rd, Waterfall, PA. For a google map link to the exact location, click here. On Saturday and Sunday, there will be turn signs from the Breezewood Travel Plaza area to the start line to direct athletes driving from there to the start.

Two Days, Three Race Options!
Save the date for Saturday, October 18 and Sunday, October 19, 2025 in Waterfall, Pennsylvania. This is a two-day event where each day of racing will be limited to 500 runners to accommodate more athletes without crowding the out-and-back course!
